Job description

Our Customer was founded in 1982 in an effort to create a solid accounting firm headed by native professionals. They later branched out to other services, which is now a multinational professional services network with offices in over 150 countries and territories around the world. With more than 100,000 professionals, they provide audit and assurance, tax, consulting, and risk and financial advisory services to a broad cross-section of the largest corporations and governmental agencies.

We are seeking an LLM Engineer on a contract basis to help support our Customer’s business needs. This role is hybrid (3 days remote and 2 days on-site) in San Jose, CA.

The LLM Engineer will be responsible for designing, training, fine-tuning, optimizing, and deploying large language models. This role requires deep experience with ML infrastructure, LLM architectures, model weights, and large-scale deployment strategies. The engineer will work cross-functionally to turn research advancements into robust, production-ready solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, train, fine-tune, and evaluate large language models for performance, efficiency, and alignment with product or research objectives.
  • Implement scalable inference pipelines and optimize serving infrastructure using approaches such as quantization, caching, and distillation.
  • Deploy models and integrate them into applications, APIs, or production systems.
  • Lead experimentation with new model architectures, prompt-engineering strategies, retrieval-augmented systems, and optimization techniques.
  • Collaborate with product, data, and ML operations teams to translate research into production features.
  • Improve model performance, safety, reliability, and efficiency through continuous iteration.

Qualifications

  • 6–9 years of experience in machine learning, with strong expertise in LLM development and optimization.
  • Hands-on experience working with model weights, inference infrastructure, and large-scale deployment.
  • Proficiency in Python and modern deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Strong understanding of transformer architectures, retrieval systems, quantization, distillation, and model scaling techniques.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and deliver high-impact ML solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and comfort working in fast-paced, research-driven environments.
