Job description
Our customer is a global provider of information-based analytics and decision tools for professional and business customers. They help researchers make new discoveries, doctors and nurses improve the lives of patients, and lawyers develop winning strategies. They prevent online fraud and money laundering and help insurance companies evaluate and predict risk. Their events combine in-person and digital experiences to help customers learn about markets, source products and complete transactions. We are seeking a contract Legal Editor to develop high-quality legal content, including “how-to” practice notes, forms, checklists, and legal analysis covering a range of patent law topics for a practitioner audience. Significant experience in patent litigation is required. Additional experience in patent prosecution and/or patent licensing is strongly preferred. This role is 100% remote.
Hours: Part-time, 15-20 hours/week
Skills and Qualifications:
J.D. from an accredited law school
- Active bar admission in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- At least five years of experience practicing patent litigation
- Experience practicing in the federal district court
- Excellent legal writing, research, and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet assigned deadlines
- Ability to accept editorial feedback and revise work accordingly
- Highly organized and self-motivated
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word (including Track Changes) and online legal research
Required Patent Litigation Experience (candidates should have experience in most of the following areas)
- Drafting pleadings and briefs in patent-related proceedings across various forums
- Managing all phases of discovery, including drafting and responding to discovery requests
- Working with experts and drafting expert reports
- Taking and defending depositions
- Handling discovery-related motion practice, including motions to compel and for sanctions
- Managing pre-trial and post-trial motion practice, including motions to dismiss, summary judgment, injunctions, and judgment as a matter of law and related remedies
Preferred Additional Experience
- Practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC)
- Practice before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB)
- Hatch-Waxman litigation
- Patent prosecution experience
- Opinion work, including invalidity, infringement, and freedom-to-operate analyses
- Transactional experience, including patent licensing and IP due diligence in corporate transactions
