Legal Taxonomist, Data Discovery and Enrichment

They prevent online fraud and money laundering and help insurance companies evaluate and predict risk. We are seeking a Legal Taxonomist on a contract basis to join the US taxonomy team. This role is 100% remote and candidates must be able to work EST or CST hours.

The role will consist of evaluating the topics applied to US caselaw documents and to other US legal content types for relevancy and/or creating complex Boolean searches for legal topics. This role designs, develops, and maintains the legal taxonomy for the company across a broad range of practice areas to meet all customer and product needs. They also classify legal content into the taxonomy through the creation of complex legal classification rules or assembling high-quality training sets to drive machine learning. The ideal candidate will focus on classification and not taxonomy design.

Responsibilities:

• Creating manual classification rules for legal topics that are used to classify LexisNexis content with a high precision and recall
• Legal research to discover statutory content pertinent to particular legal topics
• Review and evaluate content to determine if the content is relevant to a particular topics

Must-haves:

• Qualifications and skills
  • US law school graduate required
  • JD from an accredited school required
  • Must be licensed and in good standing in at least one state
• Legal Research Skills
  • Extensive experience of using legal research software is required
  • Ability to complete complex legal research across multiple jurisdictions and practice areas is required
  • 2 years+ proven experience of writing complex online searches to conduct legal research is required
  • Ability to distinguish between different complex legal concepts is required
• Technical Skills
  • Experience of MS Office 365, Word, Outlook and Excel is required
  • Understanding of, and ability to apply, QA standards and procedures is required
