We are seeking a Mechanical and Electrical Systems Manager on a contract basis to help support their ongoing business needs. This role is on-site in Greenville, NC.



Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain maintenance and testing programs for hospital mechanical and electrical systems across the main campus and related facilities
  • Ensure proper operation of critical systems and perform troubleshooting when systems do not operate as designed
  • Oversee systems including electrical distribution, emergency generators, chilled water plants, steam systems, boiler plants, domestic water systems, HVAC, infection control ventilation, plumbing, medical gas systems, fire detection and suppression systems, and building automation systems
  • Develop preventive maintenance programs to ensure system reliability and operational safety
  • Coordinate utility-system-related activities during in-house construction and special projects, including programming, cost estimation, and the design of plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems
  • Oversee in-house construction work and equipment installations to ensure compliance with applicable codes and guidelines
  • Assist Design & Construction teams during project programming, design, and construction phases
  • Attend project meetings and provide technical input for system and equipment design and selection
  • Approve and coordinate utility system outages and equipment shutdowns required during construction
  • Assist in testing and inspecting new systems and equipment prior to hospital acceptance
  • Train and develop supervisors and staff, including scheduling training through internal resources, vendors, and certified agencies
  • Maintain records of staff training and project future technical and educational needs
  • Perform annual evaluations of supervisory staff
  • Assist the Administrator in developing, implementing, monitoring, and enforcing departmental policies and procedures
  • Support interpretation, implementation, and enforcement of local, state, and federal codes and regulations, including Joint Commission (JCAHO) standards
  • Ensure required JCAHO, DFS, and NFPA testing is performed on schedule
  • Manage the purchasing and procurement of equipment, materials, and supplies for assigned divisions
  • Coordinate capital item purchases and prepare documentation for cost management and payment processing
  • Monitor expenditures to ensure cost-efficient purchasing and prevent overstocking
  • Negotiate, renew, and oversee service contracts related to utility systems, ensuring compliance with contract requirements
  • Participate in hospital committees and forums related to Plant Operations, including quality initiatives, mock inspections, and TJC preparation
  • Participate in the Manager On-Call rotation and provide support during emergency situations
  • Communicate with hospital leadership regarding issues affecting safety or operational capability
  • Provide timely operational updates to the Administrator, including strategies, compliance updates, and daily activity summaries
  • Recommend equipment capital renewal programs, long-range system plans, and new technologies
  • Provide direction and support to assigned staff and collaborate with Design & Construction, contractors, and vendors during design and renovation efforts
  • Direct energy management initiatives, including design, construction, implementation, and monitoring of energy programs
  • Provide reports documenting cost savings, efficiency improvements, and operational progress
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including support outside normal functional responsibilities when needed
  • Support hospital and departmental goals and objectives
  • Complete Joint Commission paperwork related to EC and LS sections


Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required; higher education preferred
  • 5-7 years of related work experience
  • Strong supervisory experience with emphasis on personnel management
