Job description

Each year, our Customer helps more than seven million students prepare for a successful transition to college through programs and services in college readiness and college success—including the SAT, the Advanced Placement Program, and BigFuture. The organization also serves the education community through research and advocacy on behalf of students, educators, and schools.


We are seeking an Operations Director, Instructional Design on a contract basis to create and update engaging digital learning programs, lessons, and modules that prepare the 300 internal Operations Divisional learners to deliver the suite of assessments end-to-end. This role will collaborate across Operations, Program, and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to create best-in-class digital learning practices, templates for learning objectives, scripts, visual elements, and assessments delivered through the enterprise Learning Management System (LearnUpon). An ideal candidate has experience with Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline 360, SCORM Cloud, Global Meet, and PowerPoint to create lessons and modules, and coding skills with JavaScript extensions and other tools to produce interactive elements. This role requires a strong strategic translator who is capable of generating new content and repurposing existing content for use at scale for multiple learners. This role is 100% remote.



Responsibilities:


Develop and Deliver Training, Templates, and Artifacts (50%)

  • Create detailed design principles and templates for use in developing individual training artifacts such as webinars, live learning sessions, asynchronous lessons, and modules.
  • Develop complex training experiences and deliverables using tools such as JavaScript extensions, xAPI, cmi5, and Blender.
  • Plan, script, and build engaging, interactive, targeted, and efficient learning artifacts for internal operations teams.
  • Create visual elements, including graphics, exercises, videos, printables, and assessments to enhance learner engagement.
  • Use Articulate Storyline 360, Articulate Review, SCORM Cloud, and PowerPoint to create and update training materials.

Learning Strategy and Standards (30%)

  • Provide recommendations on training strategy and design standards through research and identification of industry best practices.
  • Ensure artifacts meet ADA compliance requirements, including the addition of closed-captioning when necessary.
  • Ensure strategy and training materials are compatible with the organization’s LMS and broader knowledge management infrastructure.

Continuous Improvement and Content Evolution (20%)

  • Incorporate feedback from subject matter experts (SMEs) and other advisors to ensure accuracy and appropriateness of content.
  • Maintain governance processes for content updates in collaboration with SMEs and the knowledge management team.


Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience designing and creating digital training programs; experience providing digital learning to K–12 educators preferred but not required.
  • Extensive knowledge of emerging trends and best practices in digital learning.
  • Expertise in authoring and publishing systems, including Articulate Storyline 360, Adobe Captivate, and SCORM Cloud, to create multimedia solutions.
  • Proven ability to develop complex learning materials, including simulations, JavaScript extensions, and multimedia.
  • Strong knowledge of instructional technologies; operational experience with LMS technologies and emerging standards such as xAPI and cmi5.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data to inform decisions and actions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders.
  • Commitment to supporting educational and career opportunities for a broad audience.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to travel 4–6 times per year for business purposes.
