Are you a Data Privacy and Technology Attorney looking to work 20-40 hours a week, fully remote, fully flexible hours, doing cool work as outside general counsel to businesses in marketing, tech, retail, and consulting? Please apply.
Job Description:
Ability (and willingness to learn and handle) all common day-to-day legal issues of small businesses in the marketing, tech, retail, and consulting space. This includes:
- Drafting website and app privacy policies and terms of use
- Drafting and negotiating Data Processing Agreements and SCCs
- Familiarity with conducting data privacy and data security audits
- Familiarity with drafting a wide variety of data privacy policies, data security policies, data security table top exercises, and data incident response plans.
- CIPP/E and CIPP/US Certified
- providing actionable advice on global privacy and data protection requirements, including the CCPA, CPRA, the EU General Data Protection Regulation, and other U.S. federal and state privacy laws, grounded in an understanding of our client’s products and services.
- Drafting and negotiating technology agreements including but not limited to drafting and negotiating custom software development agreements, website and application management agreements, SaaS agreements, on-premise software agreements, EULAs, Open Source Software Policies, software licensing transactions, software sale transactions.
- Provide legal guidance and compliance analysis for custom software development projects
- Counseling for analyzing new legal requirements applicable to privacy and data protection, including the translation of legal requirements into actionable advice.
- Collaborates with clients in understanding trends in technology, privacy, and data protection regulation and proactively engaging to address them.
- Maintains a deep understanding of technology, privacy, and data protection issues, risks, expectations, and solutions.
- Assist clients with designing, implementing, and maintaining a global privacy program.
- Familiarity with providing counseling on privacy concerns related to marketing campaigns
- Familiarity with providing counseling on privacy concerns in developing, storing, and retrieving data from systems and applications
- Strong experience in data security law. Participate in information security incident planning, investigations, and response to ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and contractual requirements.
- Assist with overall legal compliance of clients
- Assist with evaluating and solving for a broad range of business risks
- Draft demand letters and assist with pre-litigation resolutions (we do not handle any litigation once a lawsuit is filed)
- Work closely with fellow attorneys who practice in Marketing, Technology, M&A, Patent, Trademark, Copyright, Sports, and General Transactional Law.

- Must have 4+ years of experience in data privacy law specifically
- Must have 3+ years of experience in technology law specifically
- Must seek and appreciate constructive criticism
- Must be a genuinely kind person
- Must be detail-oriented
- Must have a practical approach to legal service
- Must have graduated from a Top 40 ranked law school with a minimum 3.2 GPA (or equivalent)
Pay range: $100,000-$170,000 plus bonus for new business development

- No pressure to work more than your preferred number of hours per week. Also, if you prefer to increase your hours up to 40 hours a week or decrease it down to as low as 20 hours a week, that's fine too. Just provide at least 4 weeks of notice of your new hours.
