Legal Assistant
25 hours/week, can work more if desired
$28-40/hour
W2, Part-Time
Flexible hours: Ideally 12-5pm CST Monday-Friday, but hours can be flexible
Office Location: Downtown Sioux Falls, SD
Who We are:
A trial law firm that represents clients in high-stakes litigation. Our law firm takes on the toughest business and legal malpractice cases. We also represent individuals and families in serious personal injury, medical malpractice, and trusts and estates litigation.
The Role:
We are seeking a part-time legal assistant for our growing Downtown Sioux Falls, SD office. This team is primarily focused on Commercial litigation and Construction litigation. This role will provide essential administrative support to lawyers, paralegals and clients. Legal assistants perform a variety of clerical tasks including maintaining electronic case files, scheduling, document management and facilitating communication between clients and other case parties.
Required Skills:
- 4+ years of relevant experience within a law firm setting
- Experience in Construction, Personal Injury, or Commercial law a plus but not required
- Understanding of South Dakota courts
- Understanding of Colorado or Wyoming courts a plus but not required
- Ability to work independently, manage the office space, and support the legal staff while maintaining attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Willingness to learn new skills
Responsibilities:
- Provide administrative support to attorneys and paralegals, ensuring smooth and efficient representation of our clients’ matters.
- Coordinate communications with clients, courts and third-party professionals regarding case updates and requirements.
- Manage schedules including coordinating hearings, client meetings and important deadlines.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information in all legal matters.
- Upload court filings, deposition transcripts and other case-related correspondence into document management system and distribute to the legal team.
- Draft various types of case-related outgoing correspondence.
- Copying and scanning projects, notebook creation, mailing projects.
- E-Filing case pleadings in compliance with court procedures.
- Maintain and update case management system with accurate information.
- Maintain and update document management system to ensure proper organization and accessibility.
- Enter medical records requests in case management system and follow up as necessary.
- Regular communication with case contacts including clients, lienholders, adjusters, defense counsel, medical providers, and other parties involved in the case.
- Process incoming case invoices, submit to accounting department for timely payment.
