Our Customer is a corporation that develops, manufactures, and markets robotic products designed to improve clinical outcomes of patients through minimally invasive surgery. Founded in 1995, their goal was to create innovative, robotic-assisted systems that help empower doctors and hospitals to make surgery less invasive than an open approach. Working with the top medical professionals, they continue to develop new, minimally invasive surgical platforms and future diagnostic tools to help solve complex healthcare challenges around the world.


We are seeking a Payroll Process and Systems Lead on a contract basis to support our customers' business needs.


This role will lead projects and process improvement initiatives, as well as be the primary lead for HR system/data utilization. The Payroll Process & HCM System Lead will bring a mindset of accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement while possessing a strong financial acumen.


This role is hybrid with a set on-site schedule on Tues/Wed/Thurs and remote work on Mon/Fri. Occasional travel to Sunnyvale, CA, may be necessary to drive cross-functional efforts and build a rapport across various stakeholders.



Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the subject matter expert for payroll systems and processes used by the organization
  • Provide operational and strategic oversight of U.S. and Canada payroll services, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external regulations
  • Maintain strong governance over payroll processes, policies, and controls to ensure accurate and timely payroll delivery
  • Identify and implement process improvements and best practices to drive operational excellence
  • Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate risks while maintaining and enhancing internal controls
  • Investigate payroll errors, identify root causes, and implement sustainable solutions to prevent recurrence
  • Develop payroll reporting frameworks, dashboards, and metrics to measure performance, accuracy, and productivity
  • Serve as the primary liaison with Human Resources and other cross-functional partners to ensure seamless collaboration
  • Drive strategic planning for payroll operations, including system enhancements and technology investments
  • Support long-term organizational goals by aligning payroll strategy with business objectives

Skills/Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge of payroll operations, compliance, and risk management practices
  • Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas, PivotTables, Power Query, and data modeling
  • Experience building scalable, audit-ready payroll tools and automated reporting solutions
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex payroll data and drive process improvements
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage senior leadership and cross-functional teams
  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7–10 years of payroll systems experience in a large enterprise environment
  • Experience with Workday, ADP Vantage, and Time & Attendance (T&A) systems
  • CPP or FPC certification preferred
  • Strong executive presence and communication skills
  • Proven ability to balance short-term execution with long-term strategic planning

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and relevant payroll leadership experience
  • 7-10 years of payroll leadership experience in a large, complex organization
  • Deep knowledge of payroll operations, compliance, and risk management practices
  • Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas, PivotTables, Power Query, and data modeling
  • Experience building scalable, audit-ready payroll tools and automated reporting solutions
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex payroll data and drive process improvements
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage senior leadership and cross-functional teams
