We are seeking a Payroll Specialist on a contract basis to help support our customer’s business needs. This role is 100% remote in PST.


The Payroll Specialist is a customer-focused finance professional responsible for ensuring timely, accurate, and compliant payroll processing. This role supports a fast-paced environment, manages outsourced payroll service providers, drives process improvements, and ensures adherence to payroll regulations across multiple regions.



Responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant payroll processing, including error resolution, validation, policy compliance, and payroll accounting.
  • Manage outsourced Payroll Service Providers to ensure all payroll inputs and outputs are delivered and processed on schedule.
  • Validate all payroll entries for new hires, terminations, wage changes, position updates, job assignments, and status changes, maintaining 100% accuracy.
  • Reconcile payroll output files and financial balances against core HR data and approve required reports.
  • Conduct research and resolve complex payroll issues with minimal supervision.
  • Support payroll transitions to new payroll service providers, including parallel testing and reruns.
  • Build and document payroll processes, ensuring strong internal controls and continuous process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with payroll tax requirements, stock-based compensation rules, benefits processing, statutory audits, and internal policies.
  • Assist with monthly payroll audits, data validation, and correction of discrepancies.
  • Contribute to the setup and payroll integration of new entities and M&A activities.
  • Participate in weekly, monthly, and quarterly meetings to support ongoing process improvements.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally, influencing team members and stakeholders to improve payroll operations.


Qualifications

  • BS/BA preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in payroll or payroll operations.
  • Experience in fast-growing multinational organizations.
  • Strong experience with Workday Payroll.
  • Expertise in process mapping using tools such as Visio or Lucidchart.
  • Experience creating documentation, SOPs, procedures, and detailed process documentation (DDP).
  • Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience with Salesforce or other CRM platforms.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in Excel.
  • Experience with Oracle HCM, SAP Payroll, or similar ERP platforms.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and experience driving process improvements.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to work across distributed teams.


Preferred:

  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification.
  • Experience in large, high-volume payroll environments (Big Tech or companies with 50,000+ employees).
  • Experience with data privacy requirements and SOX compliance.
  • Six Sigma training or process-improvement certifications.
