Job description
Our Customer is an American financial services and digital payments company based in San Francisco, California. They’re working to help their diverse audiences — sellers, individuals, artists, fans, developers, and all the people in between — overcome barriers to access the economy.
We are seeking a highly motivated Payroll Tax Accountant on a contract basis to help support our Customer's business needs. This role is 100% remote.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare, review, and file amended payroll tax forms accurately, efficiently, and within required deadlines
- Communicate directly with federal and state tax agencies regarding payroll tax matters
- Document, improve, and scale workflows to build an efficient and repeatable amendment process
- Provide high-quality customer service while assisting customers with payroll tax issues
- Identify, document, and resolve issues resulting from customer errors or system limitations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure a seamless customer experience
- Support the implementation of internal controls and audit requirements to ensure ongoing compliance
- Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and evolving environment
Skills and Qualifications:
- Deep knowledge of payroll tax with at least 4 years of payroll tax experience
- Strong experience preparing and reviewing amended payroll tax returns
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Experience handling federal and state payroll tax filings and amendments
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets
- Experience using Salesforce
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including phone and email correspondence
- Ability to work independently with a strong sense of ownership
- Demonstrated ability to perform effectively in fast-paced, ambiguous environments
- Proven examples of successful project management and process improvement
- Clear track record of professional growth and increasing responsibility
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, Business, or related field
- Equivalent experience of 4+ years in tax or payroll tax operations
- Experience supporting compliance initiatives and audit requirements
- Experience improving or scaling operational tax workflows
