We are seeking an Editorial Program Manager on a contract basis to develop and produce brand-appropriate editorial content and strategy aligned with enterprise business goals. This role is 100% remote.
This role will oversee camp and backpack content for the co-op’s digital editorial publication and an in-depth learning library of gear and skills content. This person will be expected to quickly step into the role, bringing strong subject-matter familiarity, excellent editorial judgment, and the ability to operate independently.
They will be responsible for content strategy, planning, and production during this period—ensuring alignment with marketing campaigns and collaborating with cross-functional teams like social and video as needed.
This person excels at managing day-to-day editing and developing insights-based editorial strategies and tactics.
Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of camping and backpacking editorial content from ideation through publication.
- Assign, edit, produce, and occasionally write editorial content, including gear guides, how-to articles, and other content formats.
- Manage freelance contributors and oversee multiple stories across varying production timelines.
- Apply SEO, AEO, and GEO insights to develop content that supports customer needs and outdoor engagement.
- Use analytics and performance metrics to evaluate content effectiveness and inform editorial strategy.
- Expand and evolve outdoor recreation storytelling by amplifying historically underrepresented voices and perspectives.
- Ensure editorial content aligns with brand standards, journalism ethics, and audience engagement goals.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with contributors, editors, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality content on deadline.
- Support editorial planning, publishing workflows, and project coordination across multiple content initiatives.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Marketing, Communications, English, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years of experience in editorial production within a publication or mid-to-large-sized company.
- Strong editing, writing, and fact-checking skills.
- Experience assigning work to staff writers or freelance contributors.
- Demonstrated understanding of SEO content strategy and performance metrics.
- Familiarity with AP style, journalism ethics, and editorial standards.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and project management tools such as Asana.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Strong organizational and prioritization abilities with experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently and thrive in fast-paced environments.
- Commitment to inclusive storytelling and diversifying representation within outdoor content.
- Consistent track record of delivering high-quality work on deadline.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Subject matter expertise in camping and backpacking, including outdoor gear and skills.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and content distribution.
- Knowledge of visual asset libraries and image licensing.
- Experience with CMS platforms such as WordPress and web publishing workflows.
