Job description
Our customer is a large United States insurance company that is backed by more than 100 years of experience and provides insurance products and services for businesses and professionals in the United States., Canada and Europe. Headquartered in Chicago, IL, they have more than 20 US locations.
We are seeking a contract Project Manager to support our Customer's business needs. This role is hybrid (3 days remote and 2 days onsite) in Chicago, IL.
Responsibilities:
- Lead project management functions, overseeing multiple concurrent initiatives and ensuring adherence to scope, timeline, and budget.
- Identify and mitigate risks and issues; ensure timely resolution and stakeholder alignment.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and standardization of project management best practices (scope, cost, time, risk, and communication).
- Define and communicate responsibilities, authorities, and accountabilities across all project staff.
- Remove cross-organizational barriers by collaborating with senior leadership across IT and business areas.
- Partner with IT and business leaders to evaluate investment initiatives, define goals and timelines, determine resource allocation, and manage financials.
- Oversee staff within the project management function, emphasizing talent development and succession planning.
- Establish and maintain consistent project management methodologies, tools, and documentation standards.
- Build and lead a community of practice for project managers, promoting knowledge sharing and adoption of lessons learned.
Skills and Qualifications:
- 10–12+ years of project management experience, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
- Proven success managing large-scale, enterprise-level projects (multi-million-dollar budgets, multiple vendors, and cross-functional teams).
- Strong financial acumen in budgeting, project accounting, accruals, and capital vs. expense activities.
- Exceptional ability to manage multiple projects and workstreams simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with experience working directly with senior executives.
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
- PMP or other project management certification preferred.
- Self-directed and proactive problem solver.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage ambiguity.
- Adept at influencing stakeholders and driving alignment in a matrixed environment.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to lead vendors and managed service providers effectively.
- Results-oriented with excellent follow-through and accountability.
Preferred:
- Experience in security tool implementations and upgrades.
- Familiarity with Identity Access Management (IAM) and Enterprise Change Management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and related project management tools.
- Understanding of the insurance or financial services industry is a plus.
