Job description

JOB REQUISITION

PR Assistant

We are driven by Our Why.

If this inspires you, read further.

If not, stop now and pass this on to someone who would be.

We are torches that illuminate our client’s dreams.

Every product in the world, whether it be from the mind of a solopreneur of an established company, is developed by someone passionate about solving a problem. After a product is developed, marketing it is the only thing that will make it succeed – or fail.

A customer must know it is there to buy it and benefit from it. A bright and intelligently targeted beacon on a sturdy boat is required to bring attention to great ideas; without, it will float away, untethered and into the weeds.

We are the boat and the beacon who deftly carry ideas where they need to go and we deliver them in ways that make customers who need them salivate for more.

-------------

We are a dynamic, boutique consumer packaged goods PR agency and “do it yourself” PR company in Malibu, is looking for a young superstar professional who has a quick-twitch and detail-oriented work ethic to be an administrator who will also work on social media and email automation.

The ideal candidate needs to specifically desire a career in PR, can thrive in a very fast paced environment, likes the idea of being groomed to grow – and understands and can easily transact with digital marketing tools (GoogleDocs, email automation, Excel, plugins, and the like). We are looking for problem solving skills, natural hustle and a resilient disposition. This person will have freedom to think and make decisions about your task list -- this is not a job where we’ll be telling you what to do every day -- you will be part of a team working on projects so you can tell us what you think needs to be accomplished to get to these goals. These are the #1 qualifiers. You need to be dogged about this and be the person who goes the extra mile to fit within our passion-driven culture, as well as this very important list of skills:

  1. Quick thinking / moving
  2. Natural critical thinking skills
  3. Prioritization wiz
  4. Proactive
  5. Multitasker
  6. High ability to solve problems
  7. Very resourceful
  8. Proofreading master
  9. Detail oriented
  10. Propensity to learn and master technology such as email automation systems/autoresponders

We are in the business of bringing ideas to the world - the incredible brainchildren of people who are making an important human imprint, and hopefully a legacy. As wildly diverse as our client’s products can be and some in various stages of their maturation, this is an important thing. We feel passionate about supporting others who are courageous enough to bring their ideas into form and into a business. As publicists we are mouthpieces, bullhorns, the invitations to our client's personal parties (yes, it is very personal).

Our PR Assistant is a very important part of this organization, whose contributions support the animation of this whole process. You are the wind under our wings!

We’re looking for someone who really thrives in a quickly moving environment with a keen aesthetic and an insanely persnickety propensity for proofreading. We seek someone with an exceptional work ethic and the wish to grow with a company (we promoted our last assistant to an account coordinator and one of our assistants became a partner in the company).

You need to know how to use the phone, the post office and speak with strangers in the most elegant and polite way. This person is the front line of handling phones and must be well-versed in using multi-line desk phones, voicemail, transferring calls and handling the public on the phone.

You will support the efforts of both companies and a small staff of 4, including the principal. This is a highly responsible position. The work environment is a small office, fast-paced and very demanding but also casual and dog friendly.

The job is very operationally oriented; it is not creative. This position is highly functional, administrative, and supportive to the rest of the organization and is the engine that makes it “go.”

  1. Do you geek-out on organizing?
  2. Can you schedule (and re-schedule) like mad?
  3. Do you thrive in a fast-paced environment?
  4. Do you thrive on little details and have great street sense for solving problems?
  5. Can you handle pressure?
  6. Does your hair stand up on end when you see spelling or grammar errors?

You've got to be a master of Excel and get excited about making sure that this machine is working clickity, click and helping the team stay in line, schedule appointments, and meet our deadlines! If you think in systems and love the idea of finding new ways to get things to go faster; this is good. We really want to find someone who loves this stuff – as well as our small, barefooted office.

You'll work directly with the founder, a PR coordinator, account executives, our email automation guru, salespeople, and interns.

Responsibilities for Brown + Dutch include:

  1. Scheduling a lot of meetings·
  2. Answering phones and general office administration
  3. Heavy database management (Infusionsoft)
  4. Overseeing of operations (office machines, software, database, supplies, websites) Coordination of vendor contracts
  5. Managing and assigning work to interns
  6. Coordinating account executives
  7. Coordinating the operations of a robust auto-responder/database email system (Infusionsoft)
  8. Compiling weekly client reports and press clips
  9. Maintaining press lists
  10. Help with social media and web updates
  11. Coordination with clients

Responsibilities for Consumer Product Events include:

  1. Scheduling events
  2. Exhibitor liaison (gather required assets and vendor product samples for events)
  3. Facilitation of agreements and payments
  4. Booking and coordination of venue space and catering
  5. Coordination of auto-responder (Infusionsoft) and direct mail campaigns
  6. Manage events including preparation of materials and coordinating on-site staff
  7. Help with social media and web updates

Minimum requirements:

  1. BA or AA in PR, marketing, journalism, communications
  2. 1-2 years specifically in a PR agency or in-house PR department (internships okay) or academic equivalent
  3. Exceptional verbal and written communications skills
  4. PC Computer adept with the following applications: Microsoft Office Suite-Word, Excel, Power (we do not use MAC in our office)
  5. Power Point, Outlook, Google Drive. Previous experience with MuckRack, Cision and Infusionsoft/Keap a plus.
  6. Responsible self-starter who can follow directions, and is not fearful to ask questions
  7. Must love dogs.
