Job description

Our Customer is a leading value-added distributor in North America providing expertise, solutions and products from infrastructure, plumbing and appliances to HVAC, fire, fabrication and more. We are seeking a Purchasing Agent on a contract basis to support our Customer's business needs. This role is hybrid (3 days onsite and 2 days remote/week) in Newport News, VA.


This role will be working with vendors and branch associates daily. Around the 30 to 60 mark, it is expected that the candidate should start to feel comfortable with terminology and working in the system to create purchase orders.


The schedule is M-F, 8 AM-4:30 PM (1/2 hour lunch).



Responsibilities:

  • Timely review and execution of purchase orders and other operational processes
  • Ensuring accurate PO placement according to the SOD Buy Sheet
  • Reviewing purchase order acknowledgments and confirming PO’s credentials
  • Aid in resolving invoice discrepancies to ensure timely payment to vendors
  • Assist in maintaining the SOD Buy Sheet
  • Ability to recognize issues/problems and raise up those concerns as needed
  • Professional representation to all vendors, customers, and other associates at all times.
  • Collaboration among key stakeholders and maintaining excellent working relationships within the organization, as well as with vendor counterparts.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years of purchasing agent background
  • 1-2 years of Excel
  • Attention to Detail
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel Skills
  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy
  • Strong communication skills across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team.
