Our Customer is a Silicon Valley- based company that is engaged in researching emerging technologies.
We are seeking a contract QA Data Analyst & Telemetry Specialist to support our Customer's business needs. This role is on-site in Mountain View, CA.
This role will drive product quality initiatives through data analysis, log exploration, instrumentation design, and reporting. This role translates raw signals into actionable insights, dashboards, and reports that empower QA, Engineering, and Product teams to make data-driven decisions. The position is highly collaborative, requiring close partnership across cross-functional teams to define quality metrics, identify risks, and support release readiness with clear, evidence-based reporting.
Responsibilities:
- Data Analysis & Log Investigation: Investigate product logs, trace system behaviors across environments, and analyze usage patterns to support QA strategies and defect analysis.
- Instrumentation Partnership: Collaborate with engineering teams to define and validate telemetry requirements, ensuring critical quality signals are captured.
- Dashboards & Visualization: Design, maintain, and optimize dashboards reflecting test results, defect trends, performance metrics, and release health.
- Written Reports: Deliver concise reports combining narrative, metrics, and visualizations to communicate product quality, defect overviews, and release readiness.
- Root Cause Support: Assist QA and development teams with root cause analysis using logs, metrics, traces, and real-world patterns.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Work with QA, Engineering, Product, and Data teams to align on meaningful quality signals and their integration into tools and workflows.
- Quality Metrics Development: Define and refine KPIs for defect trends, coverage, regressions, and release readiness to guide QA strategies and decision-making.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Equivalent practical experience in QA, data analysis, SRE, or systems engineering is considered.
- Certifications in Data Analytics, SQL, Tableau, or observability/monitoring tools are a plus.
- Minimum of 7 years of professional experience, including 3–5 years of recent cross-functional experience in large corporate environments or on large teams.
- Strong data analysis skills using SQL, Python, R, or similar.
- Expertise in visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker, Power BI, Grafana, Superset, Plotly).
- Skilled in creating concise, actionable reports (e.g., weekly summaries, quality scorecards, release health reports).
- Hands-on experience with log analysis tools (e.g., Splunk, Sumologic, Datadog, Kibana, ElasticSearch).
- Familiarity with QA concepts, release validation, and production monitoring.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to adapt insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable collaborating with engineers on instrumentation and logging requirements.
Preferred:
- Background in QA, test automation, or release engineering.
- Experience with OpenTelemetry, distributed tracing, or event-driven logs.
- Experience in continuous delivery environments with real-time observability needs.
- Prior involvement in incident reviews or quality postmortems.
