We are seeking a Mortgage Quality Control Analyst / Underwriter on a contract basis to support our Customer’s business needs. This role is 100% remote. The core collaboration hours are 10-2 EST, where the zones overlap the most. For training purposes, it may be easier to join my EST time zone for the first assignments/training.
Responsibilities:
- Perform comprehensive quality control reviews on Conventional, FHA, VA, USDA, Jumbo, and Down Payment Assistance loan files.
- Evaluate underwriting decisions, income calculations, asset verification, credit risk, collateral analysis, and compliance with agency and lender guidelines.
- Utilize established audit checklists, job aids, and QC technology systems to document findings accurately.
- Review historical QC findings to identify defect trends and determine whether additional discretionary reviews are warranted.
- Prepare clear, actionable QC reports outlining defects, risks, and recommended remediation steps.
- Collaborate with Underwriting, Production, and Compliance teams to resolve questions, clarify documentation, and support timely file completion.
- Assist in building charts, graphs, and management-level summaries of QC trends and performance metrics.
- Support remediation planning, process improvement initiatives, and training efforts related to identified issues.
- Maintain strong attention to detail and exercise independent judgment in a fast-paced, high-volume review environment.
Qualifications
- 5+ years as a mortgage underwriter for Conventional, FHA, VA, and USDA loans at a high-volume, direct-to-consumer lender; OR
- 10+ years as a residential mortgage QC review analyst.
- DE (Direct Endorsement) Certification.
- Experience in underwriting Jumbo loan products and Down Payment Assistance programs.
- Must be proficient in Google Sheets, AirTable, Adobe Acrobat, and Encompass.
- Role is manual, requiring detailed review of vendor-provided items and new documents.
- Ability to interpret all major mortgage documentation, including initial disclosures, AUS findings, underwriting notes, and full closing packages.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate large data sets and produce summary reports using tools such as Google Sheets, AirTable, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Deep knowledge of FHA, VA, FNMA, and FHLMC quality control requirements and modern regulatory expectations.
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
