POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Research Associate supports investment professionals on the Research team. The Associate is responsible for building and maintaining high-quality financial models, synthesizing earnings and KPI trends, and providing timely information and analysis on public companies being considered for investment. Assignments are directed by one or more Analysts and/or Portfolio Managers on the Investment Research team. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented team player who takes pride in delivering analytical depth and accuracy, has strong modeling instincts, and a passion for understanding great businesses.

RESPONSIBILITIES & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Create and maintain financial models and company-level forecast scenario models, ensuring accurate assumptions and outputs and consistent formatting
  • Analyze industry structures, competitive dynamics and peer performance to produce industry trackers, comp tables on peers and other data-driven insights
  • Manage quarterly earnings spreadsheet updates to ensure timely monitoring of portfolio holdings and watchlist companies
  • Create and update KPI and performance dashboards to track trends and inform investment analysis
  • Write clear and concise earnings summaries, management commentary notes and follow-up insights for internal and external audiences
  • Conduct data analysis, including screening work with Factset, CapitalIQ or Bloomberg, consolidating and tracking industry and census data, and maintenance of watchlists

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree is required with a preference for a related field of study, such as finance, economics, or accounting
  • A minimum of four years of equity research or closely related financial analysis experience (buy-side or sell-side)
  • Track record of regularly creating and maintaining a high volume of complex financial models, including company-level forecast and multi-scenario models
  • Experience owning systematic earnings updates and KPI dashboards to support portfolio holdings monitoring
  • Strong understanding of financial statements, accounting principles, and valuation techniques
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill complex information into concise insights
  • Self-starter and ability to work independently
  • Track record of effectively managing multiple priority assignments
  • Highest degree of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Fit with Select Equity’s Core Principles (below)

CORE PRINCIPLES:

  • Originality: We generate our own ideas and never deploy common practice without skepticism. We strive to avoid the herd.
  • Innate Curiosity: We ask dumb questions. We challenge universally accepted beliefs and seek new levels of understanding.
  • Continuous Improvement: We constantly reassess our investments, policies and processes. We embrace a culture of intellectual integrity, learning, mentorship, self-reflection, entrepreneurship and growth.
  • Charity: We actively participate in our communities and give back to society in meaningful and thoughtful ways.
  • Humility: We seek no acclaim individually or as a Firm other than to earn the respect of our clients.
  • Teamwork: We trust our colleagues and communicate with transparency and respect. We measure success as a team, not as individuals.
