Job description

We are seeking a Research Designer on a contract basis to help support our Customer’s business needs. As a Research Designer working with our team, you will explore and prototype experiences for haptics interactions in AR and VR. Your work will be used in user research studies, technology demos, and proof of concept prototypes, collaborating across disciplines to bring bold ideas using novel haptic feedback technologies.

What You’ll Do:


  • Support prototyping compelling user scenarios and narratives using haptic feedback technologies.

  • Design compelling 3D interactions and experiences for AR/VR to bring user scenarios and use cases to life.

  • Design, develop, and document end-to-end interaction flows.

  • Clearly articulate design decisions to a diverse set of internal stakeholders.

Must Haves:


  • 2+ years experience as a prototyper in interaction, UX, HCI, or other related fields

  • Professional degree or equivalent in a design, computer science, or engineering-related fields

  • Proficiency with Unity, Python, and/or HTML based tools to prototype and control experiences and user studies

  • A portfolio demonstrating creative problem-solving abilities through examples of high-quality experiences in interactions, haptics, 3D, or prototyping work

  • Ability to keep up in a fast-paced dynamic environment.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience with design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop).

  • Experience with video editing software (e.g. After Effects, Adobe Premiere).

  • Familiarity with emerging technologies such as VR/AR, physical computing, haptics, or wearables.

  • Fluent in designing for a broad spectrum of interactive mediums, from mobile to physical environments to immersive digital environments.

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, HCI, or Equivalent Experience Required.

Hours & Location: 

  • M-F, 40 hours/week. This role will be remote while COVID restrictions are in place. The expectation is to be onsite at our Customer’s Redmond, WA office once it is determined safe to do so.
