Job description

About the Role:

We are looking for an experienced RFP writer who has a proven track of helping businesses win RFPs, especially in K-12 educational environments. You will offer excellent verbal and written communication skills, complemented by exceptional project management skills.

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, detail-oriented team player who thrives in a deadline-driven environment. You should have the ability to work on multiple projects at once. Although the role is mainly about responding, we would love to have someone who has seen how strategic proposal writing leads to winning business.

This position will report to and work with the RFP manager, but you will interface with the sales team and internal subject-matter experts as well in a cross-functional environment.

This is a project-based role; when we have active RFPs, hours will range from 10 to 25 hours per week, depending on the current workload. We are looking for the right person with the flexibility to work with us in an ongoing capacity as we are responding to RFPs throughout the year.

What You’ll Work On:

  • Write business proposals in response to requests for proposals (RFPs) for K-12, higher education, and workforce development services.
  • Work collaboratively with internal partners and subject-matter experts to obtain necessary information and ensure content is accurate for proposal responses.
  • Capture this information and position it to give us the greatest chance of winning RFPs.
  • Meet proposal deadlines by establishing priorities and target dates for information-gathering, writing, editing, review, and approval
  • Maintain quality work product by writing and developing up-to-date proposal responses
  • Adhere to proposal-writing standards, including consistency, accuracy, branding, and tone
  • Help develop and maintain proposal support documents
  • Help maintain the RFP response library to ensure content remains current and accurate
  • Possibly research additional RFP opportunities that are a good fit for our company and services

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Skilled at writing clear, concise, compelling, accurate, and grammatically correct content for RFPs. This content should be accurate but also adopt persuasive language that helps win business.
  • Highly organized with utmost attention to detail
  • Experience working collaboratively as part of a team
  • Strong research, analysis, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to learn new subject matter quickly and think outside the box
  • Ability to think critically and deliver in what can be a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines, effectively prioritizing projects
  • Ability to change direction quickly and comfortably and handle uncertainty/make decisions when information is not available
  • Proficiency in the Google Docs is preferred
  • Experience with Loopio or other RFP management systems is appreciated but not mandatory
  • Experience with project management programs is preferred (bonus if you have experience with Asana)

Other Qualities That Should Describe You:

  • Positive and plays well with others — collaborating with other people is key
  • Harnesses creativity into writing professional but dynamic content
  • Excels under deadlines (no, but really)
  • Flexible, resourceful, and self-motivated
  • Exudes a “can-do” attitude at every juncture
  • Gracefully receives and implements constructive feedback and guidance
