Job description
A partner of The Mom Project in the automotive industry is seeking a contract Safety Representative to help support their business needs.
This is an entry-level position, accountable for providing Workplace Safety technical and regulatory advice, mentoring, guiding, and coaching to site/functional operations. They are responsible for assisting Site Leadership with the following to maintain compliance with all MIOSHA requirements in line with the company's safety requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Analyze workplace safety data and communicate trends, risks, and improvement opportunities
- Assess site safety performance and ensure compliance with MIOSHA and safety standards
- Serve as a safety resource for day-to-day workplace safety requirements
- Support implementation of safety programs, initiatives, and tools across the site
- Partner with site leadership, HR, environmental, and health teams to drive safety improvements
- Assist in developing and promoting a strong workplace safety culture
- Provide training, education, and coaching to employees on safety practices
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop action plans and track safety initiatives
- Support resolution of safety violations, incidents, or regulatory citations
- Engage with employees on the production floor to identify risks and improve processes (approximately 50% floor presence)
- Perform administrative tasks, including injury tracking, reporting, scheduling, and documentation
- Create reports and presentations (e.g., PowerPoint) to communicate safety insights
- Support the continuous improvement of workplace safety processes and compliance
Skills and Qualifications:
- Degree not required; coursework or pursuit of a degree in Occupational Safety, EHS, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Safety, or Public Health is a plus
- Safety experience of a minimum of 2 years
- Foundational knowledge of workplace safety principles (education or equivalent experience)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Comfortable working on the production floor and engaging with employees
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret safety data and trends
- Ability to coach, teach, and influence behavior in a team environment
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks
- Flexible, patient, and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Exposure to manufacturing, machining, or foundry environments (metal casting a plus)
- Basic understanding of OSHA or MIOSHA standards
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
- Experience with safety reporting, training coordination, or compliance support
Hours and Location:
- M-F, 40 hours/week
- On-site in Livonia, MI
