Job description

Our customer is a large United States insurance company that is backed by more than 100 years of experience and provides insurance products and services for businesses and professionals in the United States., Canada and Europe. Headquartered in Chicago, IL, they have more than 20 US locations.


We are seeking a contract SOC Junior QA to support our Customer's business needs. This role is 100% remote.


The SOC QA Analyst will provide additional quality assurance capacity across all SOC shifts, ensuring timely reporting, case review, and tracking of issues for management review. This role will focus on strengthening SOC processes, mentoring junior staff, and collaborating with security teams to drive operational excellence.



Responsibilities:

  • Assist in QA duties across all SOC shifts to ensure timely reporting and issue tracking.
  • Provide queue administration, including execution, oversight, and delegation.
  • Conduct case reviews and quality assurance checks.
  • Review metrics, compile reports, and deliver management updates on daily issues and impact.
  • Support case work as needed.
  • Maintain regular QA meetings with L2 and L3 analysts.
  • Coordinate roundtable topics, training sessions, and lunch & learn events.
  • Review junior staff analysis for quality control, providing mentorship and career development support.
  • Collaborate with SOC, Intelligence, Incident Response, and Enterprise Security teams for investigations and threat-hunting activities.
  • Identify visibility gaps in the network and recommend solutions.
  • Develop, maintain, and update playbooks, processes, and detection capabilities based on real-time feedback.
  • Communicate incident details to business stakeholders and non-technical audiences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Skills and Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of technical experience in IT security across multiple platforms, operating systems, software, communications, or network protocols; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Industry certifications such as CISSP, GCFA, GCIH, GCFE, or equivalent.
  • ITIL certification is a plus.
  • Familiarity with SOC operations, scheduling, and tools such as SIEM, SOAR, and DFIR products.
  • Strong understanding of the incident response lifecycle and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Experience with SLA calculations, KPI tracking, and security policy development.
  • Knowledge of regulations (e.g., SOX, privacy) and IT internal controls.
  • Ability to influence the adoption of security concepts across the organization.
  • Experience in technical writing and knowledge base management.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with peers, IT management, and business partners.
  • Experience in coaching and reporting findings to support team growth.
  • Project management capability to deliver technical projects with minimal oversight.
  • Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel or equivalent spreadsheet/database expertise required).
  • Preferred: Insurance industry knowledge.
