Contract Role: 6 months, with opportunity to extend
Team: Community & Social, Seller Marketing
Reports to: Seller Social Media Manager
Overview
Etsy’s marketplace is powered by the people who make it unlike anywhere else: our sellers—the independent creative entrepreneurs building businesses of their own. This role sits at the heart of that. You’ll launch and lead Etsy Success on TikTok from the ground up, defining what a seller-first, human-centered brand looks and sounds like on one of the platforms shaping culture fastest. You’ll also be a key creative partner to the broader social team, supporting video editing and short-form content across seller focused channels. Through practical education, timely insights, and compelling seller stories, you’ll create content that helps sellers grow, connect, and feel part of the Etsy community.
This role lives within Seller Marketing, Etsy's engine for helping sellers succeed and choose Etsy as their long-term partner. Our work is about building and nurturing community, celebrating sellers' wins, and rewarding the people who make the marketplace what it is. TikTok will be a powerful way to do that at scale.
Etsy Success is Etsy's seller-facing channel, where we help our community learn, grow, and feel connected. Your job is to bring that to life on TikTok and other short form videos in a way that feels native, useful, and genuinely worth following. You'll stay true to what Etsy Success stands for while creating content built for how people actually watch, engage, and discover on the platform.
This is a rare 0→1 opportunity. There's no existing channel and no playbook to inherit. You'll set the strategy, build the go-to-market plan, define the content pillars and voice, and create the content: concepting, filming, and editing high-volume short-form video that earns Etsy Success a place on sellers' For You pages.
This is a high-autonomy, hands-on channel ownership and content creation role for someone who pairs strong strategic instincts with excellent short-form video editing. You bring GTM instincts and a deep, native read on the Gen Z and TikTok landscape, and you can edit a polished video on your own from day one.
What You'll DoChannel Strategy, Launch & GTM (0→1)
- Define and launch Etsy Success on TikTok, establishing the channel's purpose, positioning, and go-to-market plan from a blank page.
- Set the content pillars and point of view for how Etsy Success educates, entertains, and celebrates sellers in a way that's unmistakably TikTok-native.
- Translate Etsy's Seller Marketing strategy (guiding sellers with insights, celebrating milestones, and connecting sellers to each other and to Etsy) into a channel sellers actually want to follow.
- Own the voice on the platform: warm, human-centered, and seller-first, but sharp and native enough to hold attention. You'll figure out where that line is and keep evolving it.
- Set the experimentation and learning agenda for the first 6 to 12 months and recommend a roadmap for its next phase, leaning on engagement and learning signals over vanity follower counts to find channel-content fit before scaling.
Content Creation & Editing (Hands-On)
- Independently concept, film, and edit a high volume of polished short-form video. Video editing is core to this role. You'll own it end to end, not hand it off.
- Build a content mix that serves the seller: education and how-tos, relatable seller-life content, success-story and seller spotlights, milestone and celebration moments, product and feature launches, and timely trend participation.
- Turn Etsy's insights and real seller stories into content that is genuinely useful and genuinely entertaining, never one at the expense of the other.
- Establish efficient workflows so the channel produces consistently and at pace without sacrificing quality or voice.
- Brief and direct external creators, contractors, and seller collaborators as needed, keeping everything aligned to Etsy's tone and creative vision.
Culture & Trends
- Monitor trends, sounds, formats, and cultural moments in real time, and move fast to participate where it's right for Etsy.
- Bring a steady stream of ideas and a clear POV on what's working, what's next, and what to skip.
- Use sharp editorial judgment on where to lean into a trend and where Etsy's human-centered brand is better served sitting one out.
Events & Activations
IRL events and markets are a major focus for our team, and social is how we scale those moments far beyond the room.
- Turn live events, markets, and activations into can't-miss content, building anticipation before, capturing the energy during, and extending the moment after.
- Attend and document Etsy seller events to capture real-time and behind-the-scenes content, often on a fast turnaround (i.e. same day or next-day recap content)
- Spark pride and enthusiasm across the seller community with event coverage and social amplification that celebrates participating sellers and connects the broader community.
Community & Sellers
- Source, spotlight, and collaborate with Etsy sellers, capturing their stories with care so they feel celebrated, not used as props.
- Partner with the broader Community team to bring programming (Etsy Up Close, IRL markets and events, Etsy Design Awards) to life on TikTok.
- Make sellers feel seen and connected. Every post is a chance to build trust and lasting affinity at scale.
Collaboration & Measurement
- Work as part of a lean social team, sharing production and brainstorming across channels, and lending video capture and editing support to Community adjacent projects.
- Collaborate with Product Marketing, Comms, Creative, and Insights to support launches and ground content in real seller needs.
- Define what success looks like for a brand-new channel, and report on performance, insights, and iteration.
What You Bring
- Strong, independent video editing skills. This is non-negotiable. You can take raw footage and cut a polished, on-brand short-form video on your own, from day one. This is a hands-on content creation role, not one that briefs editing out.
- A native read on TikTok and Gen Z culture, and short-form storytelling. You understand platform behaviors, sounds, formats, and what makes something feel native versus try-hard, because you live on the platform, not just study it.
- A builder's mindset with GTM instincts. You've launched a channel, brand, or content franchise from scratch, or you clearly thrive in ambiguity and can build the plan and the content without a template.
- Strong creative taste in short-form video (sound, pacing, editing style, visual storytelling), plus the editorial judgment to balance trend participation with long-term brand building.
- Genuine empathy for makers and small business owners, and the instinct to tell their stories in a way that feels human.
- A knack for turning live moments into social gold. You can cover an event in real time, turn footage around fast, and make people who weren't there feel connected.
- The ability to move fast and self-manage across multiple workstreams without dropping quality or drifting off-voice.
- Clear communication and collaboration skills across a small team and cross-functional partners.
- Roughly 3 to 5 years in social media or content, though we weigh demonstrated TikTok-native craft, editing ability, and taste over years on paper. If you're earlier in your career but clearly built for this, we want to hear from you.
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field preferred.
Nice to Have
- Experience with seller-, creator-, or SMB-facing content (vs. purely consumer-brand social).
- Comfort filming and directing yourself and others, and briefing external creators.
- Familiarity with education-led or community-driven content.
