The ideal candidate is a highly experienced benefits professional who can operate independently and serve as a true subject matter expert. While SAP/ERP experience is strongly preferred, candidates with deep expertise in benefits analytics, medical plan financials, multi-state administration, and benefits operations will be considered even without direct SAP experience.

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Benefits Analyst to support the strategy, financial management, administration, and continuous improvement of the organization’s health and welfare benefit programs. This role will have a strong focus on medical plan financials, claims analysis, cost trends, plan performance, and data-driven recommendations, while also serving as a subject matter expert across day-to-day benefits operations.
The Senior Benefits Analyst will partner closely with the Benefits Manager, Finance, HR, Payroll, brokers, carriers, and external vendors to ensure benefits programs are financially sound, compliant, accurately administered, and effectively communicated to employees.
Key Responsibilities
Benefits Strategy & Analysis
- Analyze medical, pharmacy, and ancillary plan performance, including claims trends, utilization, cost drivers, and stop-loss.
- Develop data-driven recommendations for cost management, plan design, and benefits strategy.
- Partner with brokers, carriers, and vendors to evaluate plan performance, benchmark programs, and support renewals.
- Prepare dashboards, reports, and presentations that translate complex benefits and financial data into actionable insights.
- Evaluate wellness programs and other benefits initiatives based on participation, utilization, and outcomes.
Financial Management & Reporting
- Support benefits budgeting, forecasting, cost tracking, and financial reporting.
- Perform billing reconciliation, invoice auditing, and discrepancy resolution.
- Partner with Finance and Payroll to validate plan costs, accruals, employee deductions, and related financial data.
- Maintain accurate, reliable, and audit-ready benefits data and reporting.
Benefits Administration & Compliance
- Serve as a subject matter expert for health and welfare benefits and provide guidance on complex employee and leadership inquiries.
- Administer and track multi-state leave programs, including FMLA, ADA, disability, parental leave, and state-mandated leave programs.
- Ensure benefits and leave programs are administered in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including ERISA, ACA, COBRA, and state leave requirements.
- Partner with HR, Payroll, vendors, and other stakeholders on leave tracking, benefits continuation, and premium payments.
- Support benefits system configuration, maintenance, data integrity, and process improvements.
Open Enrollment & Employee Engagement
- Support the planning and execution of annual open enrollment, including system configuration, testing, data validation, vendor coordination, and communications.
- Develop employee communications and presentations that clearly explain benefit offerings and increase engagement.
- Partner with vendors and internal teams to resolve enrollment issues and ensure operational readiness.
Systems & Process Improvement
- Support benefits technology initiatives, including system implementations, enhancements, and ongoing maintenance.
- Partner with technical resources to translate business requirements into effective benefits system configurations.
- Identify opportunities to improve benefits processes, scalability, accuracy, and employee experience.
- Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in benefits administration and/or benefits analysis.
- Strong experience analyzing medical plan financials, claims data, utilization, cost trends, and plan performance.
- Experience with billing reconciliation, financial reporting, budgeting, and benefits cost management.
- Hands-on experience administering multi-state leave programs and applying applicable benefits and leave regulations.
- Experience working with brokers, carriers, vendors, Finance, Payroll, and HR stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to translate complex benefits and financial information into clear recommendations and presentations.
- Ability to independently manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and concurrent workstreams with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to handle confidential employee, benefits, and financial information with professionalism and discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with SAP Benefits Administration, SAP HR, BenefitFocus, or a comparable HRIS/benefits platform.
- Experience participating in a benefits ERP implementation, transformation, or system migration, including requirements gathering, configuration, testing, and implementation.
- Experience providing functional direction to technical resources during benefits system implementations or enhancements.
- Experience with multi-state benefits compliance, including ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, and state-specific leave laws.
- CEBS (Certified Employee Benefit Specialist) designation.
- Experience supporting benefits strategy, annual enrollment updates, and open enrollment execution.
