Job description

The Mom Project is proud to partner with one of the top high-growth tech-focused companies that is now hiring for a contract Senior Counsel, Employment to augment their in-house team for a 5 month leave coverage position.

This position can be 100% remote for US based candidates, though preference may be given to candidates based in NYC, LA or San Francisco who are able to travel on-site for occasional meetings.

As a Senior Counsel, Employment, you work on exciting matters that require proactive legal guidance. You're part of a group of talented in-house lawyers and the projects you work on challenge you to think creatively and constructively. You are energetic and collaborative -- ready to partner in initiatives that influence all aspects of our customer's business and work with employees across the company. Your contributions will be impactful, value driven and you will play an instrumental role on the Legal Team.


In This Role You Will:

  • Serve as a lead attorney overseeing a range of employment matters across the United States from inception to completion
  • Counsel senior management and the People & Culture team on a variety of labor, employment and compliance issues, including hiring, workplace conduct, FLSA, benefits, policies and separations, all while appropriately balancing business needs and risk mitigation
  • Manage litigation and defense strategy, arbitrations, internal investigations, communications with federal and state agencies, and responses to correspondence from attorneys and others
  • Analyze judicial and legislative developments and structure and implement strategies, trainings, and policies and /procedures to mitigate legal risk
  • Supervise outside counsel to decrease spend and achieve desired results
  • Contribute to Employment legal-related projects as necessary

What We Look For:
  • Strong academic credentials including a JD and membership in good standing in at least one state bar
  • Minimum 6+ years combined years of experience, primarily in employment advice and litigation, with a top-tier law firm and/or in-house legal department (high-growth company experience a plus)
  • Proven ability to independently manage caseload and other projects
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with an ability to distill complex legal issues and provide sound, clear legal advice to senior leaders and others
  • Experience with local, state and federal employment laws, familiarity with California, New York State and New York City a plus
  • Diplomatic, assertive, and adaptable when working cross-functionally and with senior executives throughout the organization
  • Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment, adjust readily to multiple demands, shifting priorities, and rapid change with composure
  • Strong analytical/fact based decision-making skills combined with the ability to think innovatively. Examines root cause and provides recommendations to management to mitigate repeated issues
  • A team player with low ego who can effectively work with and manage other legal professionals
Hours, Location, & Duration
  • Monday - Friday, 40 hours/week
  • 100% Remote for US based candidates. Preference may be given to candidates based in NYC, LA, or SF who are able to work on-site occasionally for meetings
  • 5 month contract
