Job description

Our Customer is a mission-driven not-for-profit organization that connects students to college success and opportunity. Founded in 1900, they were created to expand access to higher education. Each year, our Customer helps more than seven million students prepare for a successful transition to college through programs and services in college readiness and college success—including the SAT, the Advanced Placement Program, and BigFuture. The organization also serves the education community through research and advocacy on behalf of students, educators, and schools.


We are seeking a Senior Product Designer – UX Research on a contract basis to help support our Customer’s business needs. This role is 100% remote.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate product discovery and contribute to design strategy across complex assessment and platform ecosystems
  • Apply design thinking methodologies to identify user needs, reframe problems, and create scalable, user-centered solutions
  • Conduct and synthesize generative, formative, and evaluative user research through interviews, usability testing, surveys, and workshops
  • Facilitate co-creation sessions and workshops to align cross-functional teams and uncover opportunities
  • Translate user, behavioral, and operational data into actionable product and design insights
  • Influence prioritization and roadmap discussions by aligning user needs with business and organizational goals
  • Advocate for human-centered, inclusive, and accessible design practices
  • Communicate design vision and strategy through effective storytelling and presentations
  • Collaborate with product managers, engineers, researchers, and stakeholders to deliver production-ready designs
  • Create user flows, sitemaps, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity UI designs
  • Apply and contribute to design systems to ensure visual and functional consistency
  • Write and validate content using plain language and accessibility best practices
  • Conduct usability testing, A/B testing, and accessibility audits to validate design decisions
  • Design responsive, mobile-first experiences for web and native mobile applications
  • Experiment with generative AI tools to support ideation and prototyping
  • Translate design decisions into clear implementation specifications for engineering teams
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, including standups, sprint planning, design reviews, and QA cycles
  • Contribute to shared design operations, systems, templates, and organizational design initiatives
  • Map and simplify complex data systems and workflows to improve usability and clarity
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams and provide consultative guidance to stakeholders with limited design experience


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong experience designing for complex, content-rich websites and applications
  • Strong product design mindset with experience balancing strategic thinking and hands-on execution
  • Experience in understanding, mapping, and simplifying complex data systems and workflows
  • Strong proficiency in user flows, wireframes, prototypes, high-fidelity UI design, and information architecture
  • Proficiency with Figma, Miro, Dovetail, and related design and collaboration tools
  • Experience conducting generative and evaluative research methods, including usability testing and interviews
  • Strong facilitation and workshop leadership skills
  • Strong understanding of design systems, responsive design, and accessibility standards
  • Experience designing for web and native mobile platforms
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and understand technical constraints
  • Strong communication, presentation, storytelling, and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong consultative and teaching abilities when working with cross-functional teams unfamiliar with design processes
  • Commitment to inclusive, ethical, and user-centered design
  • Experience writing and testing content using plain language principles
  • Experience using generative AI tools for design ideation and prototyping
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams
  • Highly adaptable and comfortable navigating evolving priorities and complex environments

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working within large-scale platform, assessment, education, or enterprise environments
  • Experience collaborating in Agile product development environments
  • Familiarity with front-end technologies and implementation considerations
  • Experience contributing to organization-wide design operations or systems initiatives
