Job Description

Why you?

You are someone who brings your life experience to create products that truly make a difference in the lives of working parents. You use data to inform roadmaps, but you also know when you have enough information for action. You love the challenge of prioritizing user needs amongst multiple business objectives. You enjoy growing from diverse perspectives and coworkers while collaborating with others in a cross-functional team, and across departments.

You are looking for something more from your job. Maybe a bigger problem to solve with both immediate and long term impact, or perhaps you just need a mission you can believe in every day. You are scrappy and collaborative while looking to join an inclusive and supportive culture with a bias for action. You dig a balanced startup life and can wrestle challenges with grace. You love big, interesting problems and bringing solutions to the masses while making sure it feels personal, authentic, and connected. If this sounds like you, we'd like to talk.

Why us?

The Mom Project is a pioneering, remote-first venture-backed startup with roots in Chicago & Cincinnati. We are backed by some of the best investors in the world and are lucky to be surrounded by an incredible team of advisors, including Serena Williams.

The Mom Project is a platform and community leading a cultural movement that matches companies with diverse talent. To date, our platform has unlocked over $200M in earning potential by connecting our 500,000+ moms and mom-supporters with opportunities at world class brands like Apple, Accenture, Etsy and Nike… and we are just getting started!

Our team is growing as we push to rewrite the narrative for working women at every stage of life. We believe women should be able to choose both a successful family life AND career aspirations without sacrificing one over the other. Our commitment to Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion across race, gender, age, religion, identity, and experience drives us and our mission forward every day. We strive towards inclusion and that means everyone is comfortable bringing their authentic and best self to work every day.

This role is directly with The Mom Project.

About the Role:

The Mom Project is looking for an experienced product manager to join our Data Science team. We are looking for someone with the ability and ambition to define the strategy, design and delivery of technologies that match our platform users with great job opportunities. Your work will have a meaningful impact on the daily lives of our users.

Our Data Science team was fully established earlier in summer 2021 so we are still doing a lot of foundational work. Some of the problems we’re working on are: matching job seekers with jobs, predicting if job seekers will get interviewed, and automating pulling relevant information out of resumes and job descriptions. Our team is full-stack, meaning we own the Data Science process end-to-end from training models to API deployment. We work in two-week sprints with daily scrums, bi-weekly sprints and retros.

As the product manager for this team, you will be responsible for driving business value through data science models that help our company scale. You are comfortable with data science modeling and A/B testing principles. You are eager to work with the fine details of a product and should be comfortable participating within cross-functional teams that include partners from Data Science, Analytics, Product, and Engineering.

In this role, you’ll

  • Lead product management for one of The Mom Project’s most critical platforms and build solutions that scale to the multifaceted needs of both our Talent and Employer communities

  • Work closely with the Director of Data Science to define vision and strategy, setting the stage for long term, continued success in Data Science initiatives that align with business goals, objectives, and our brand promise

  • Provide effective written and verbal updates on the product roadmap and key projects to senior leadership and stakeholders

  • Work with partner teams to gather input and define priorities leading to product execution

  • Distinguish user feedback from their underlying problems to effectively frame and communicate problem statements

  • Be a champion for the Data Science team throughout the organization, keeping an eye out for opportunities to improve the business by leveraging existing models and generating ideas for new data science solutions

  • Define, build, and analyze metrics for the success of products

  • Define OKRs with the team and track progress against them regularly

  • Work closely with Project Manager to ensure product lifecycle deadlines are met, development roadblocks removed, and stages completed on time

  • Share insights and knowledge with the organization to inform other teams’ work, and promote cross-functional collaboration with Data Science and the rest of the org

The skills, experience and qualities you’ll need to succeed:

  • Strong background in Product Management building technology products with a demonstrated ability to drive product planning and launch in a fast paced environment

  • Experience working with machine learning and data science teams, especially with full-stack teams that build and own their models' APIs

  • Experience with A/B testing platforms and the in-depth use of data to inform decisions

  • Outstanding communicator, able to talk shop with engineering partners, and communicate vision to business leaders

  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience partnering with highly cross-functional teams

  • Demonstrated understanding of how to interpret customer needs and translate them into application and operational requirements

  • Proficient in agile product management practices and tools

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities at the same time

  • Self-starter and self-driven; you have no concerns about- and usually prefer to- manage your own schedule.

  • Empathetic and understanding personality; working in a startup is an ever-changing landscape!

  • Experience in B2B SAAS and/or marketplace a plus!

  • You enjoy working with a team of goofy people who do things like name all of their projects after candy

  • Passion for the brand, naturally!
