***Please note that our customer is currently not considering applicants from the following locations: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Tennessee.***

Our Customer is a corporation that develops, manufactures, and markets robotic products designed to improve clinical outcomes of patients through minimally invasive surgery. Founded in 1995, their goal was to create innovative, robotic-assisted systems that help empower doctors and hospitals to make surgery less invasive than an open approach. Working with the top medical professionals, they continue to develop new, minimally invasive surgical platforms and future diagnostic tools to help solve complex healthcare challenges around the world.

We are seeking a contract Senior Software Engineer who is passionate about building a modern, scalable Data-as-a-Service (DaaS) platform to empower digital products and support more than 2,000 engineers across the organization. In this role, you will own and evolve critical components of our real-time and micro-batch data pipelines that fuel product development, internal tools, and key metrics for engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and enterprise analytics teams. This role is onsite in Sunnyvale, CA.

You will play a central role in reimagining how teams consume and interact with data—driving discoverability, accessibility, and actionable insights at scale. Long-term success means delivering robust, efficient systems that replace legacy processes with modern solutions, enabling teams to move faster with greater confidence and autonomy.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and build scalable, distributed Data-as-a-Service systems that ingest, process, and serve data from robotics, engineering, manufacturing, and clinical sources in both real-time and batch modes.
  • Develop and maintain robust APIs, data services, and tooling to provide secure and intuitive access to high-quality data.
  • Partner with engineering, analytics, and business stakeholders to evolve data contracts and models, ensuring semantic consistency and supporting emerging use cases.
  • Implement CI/CD practices for data services, including automated testing for data quality, service reliability, and schema evolution.
  • Champion a self-service data culture by building discoverable, well-documented data products and enabling teams toward empowered, autonomous data access.
  • Act as a technical leader in the data domain—driving best practices, mentoring teammates, and continuously improving how data is produced, shared, and consumed across the organization.

Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or 8-10+ years of hands-on technical experience.
  • Proficient in at least two major programming languages, such as Python, Go, Scala, C++, or Java, with strong software design and architecture skills.
  • Deep knowledge of SQL and a strong understanding of relational database internals and performance optimization.
  • Proven experience building data pipelines and working with distributed systems using tools such as Apache Spark, Kafka, Elasticsearch, Snowflake, and Airflow.
  • Strong collaborator who contributes to code reviews, system design discussions, and sprint planning, while ensuring high technical quality.

Preferred:

  • Experience in Data Platform or Infrastructure Engineering teams.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, Elasticsearch, Apache Airflow, Snowflake, and Terraform.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD best practices for DataOps and deployment automation.
  • Experience deploying applications into Kubernetes-based environments.
