Job description

Our Customer is a software vendor of cloud-based ERP that practices in human capital management and financial management applications. They offer products and services that allow customers to oversee time tracking, procurement, employee data, financial accounting, and expense management at anytime and anywhere. They continue to offer enterprise-level software solutions for financial management, human resources, and planning. Their proven methodology, expertise, community, tools, and education help ensure your organization’s success.

We are seeking a Technical Writer on a contract basis to help support our Customer’s business needs. The ideal candidate is an outstanding writer with experience creating content for enterprise software targeted to professional and technical audiences. We're looking for someone with excellent written, verbal, and demonstrated technical writing expertise who provides leadership and mentoring of team members through knowledge and skills, and who is able to determine work priorities without direction from managers. Someone that champions expertise and excellence using demonstrated creativity and resourcefulness. This role is can be remote for the right candidate but there is a strong preference for someone who can be hybrid out of Pleasanton, CA.

Responsibilities:

  • Works closely with writers and editors to develop high-quality technical content.
  • Researches and resolves content issues identified by customers or workmates by updating relevant topics.
  • Drafts, maintains, and edits content for release notes and release publications, and backlog.
  • Balances multiple deliverables across various product areas at the same time.
  • Prepares content for online delivery.
  • Learns and tests product functionality while writing documentation.
  • Reviews technical information and content prepared by other team members for clarity, consistency, and content quality.
  • Manages time effectively, focuses on priorities, and maps out documentation plans in Jira and planning tool without supervision.
  • Requires minimal editing of content.
  • Helps other writers with developing content for publications. Can move across product areas when needed.
  • Focuses on team and individual goals.
  • Sets an example based on quality of writing, relationships, and adherence to processes.
  • Provides regular updates to manager and lead on project status.
  • Tracks work using appropriate tools (Example: Jira).
  • Mentors and guides junior writers on the team to improve their effectiveness.
  • Attends alignment meetings, learns from discussions, and adds detail to topics.
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree
  • 4-6+ years of technical writing experience or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of experience in a customer services role is a plus
  • Experience implementing or working with enterprise software preferred.
  • Strong understanding of impacts across product areas.
  • Expert level knowledge of DITA and XML authoring.
  • Software-as-a-service (SaaS) experience is greatly preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills among peers and other stakeholders.
  • Experience working with Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) preferred.
  • Background in human resources, payroll, finance, or higher education a plus.
