Job description

***Please note that our customer is currently not considering applicants from the following locations: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Tennessee.***

Our Customer is a corporation that develops, manufactures, and markets robotic products designed to improve clinical outcomes of patients through minimally invasive surgery. Founded in 1995, their goal was to create innovative, robotic-assisted systems that help empower doctors and hospitals to make surgery less invasive than an open approach. Working with the top medical professionals, they continue to develop new, minimally invasive surgical platforms and future diagnostic tools to help solve complex healthcare challenges around the world.

We are seeking a Senior Visual designer on a contract basis to support our Customer's business needs. This role is a hybrid setup with 2 days remote and 3 days onsite in Santa Clara, CA.

As a Senior Visual Designer on the Digital UX team, you'll take a lead design role on the surgeon-facing software products. You'll work closely with our partners in the Product, Engineering, and Human Factors groups to take ideas from concept to implementation. You'll apply the visual design system vocabulary to some of our most vital surgeon-facing applications to make our digital applications visually consistent, compelling, and delightful to use.

You are a flexible and dynamic professional who strives for innovative and elegant solutions in all endeavors. The ideal candidate is passionate about intentional aesthetics and the critical role design systems play in product continuity. This candidate should have experience designing end-to-end user interfaces for a wide range of products and services. You'll play a key role in providing meaningful information to surgeons at the right place and time.

All applications must include a link to an online portfolio. If a password is required, your application must include the portfolio password. Applications lacking portfolios will not be considered.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead visual design efforts within the suite of digital products
  • Consistently guide the design efforts to help us productively create digital design work that delights and inspires the users.
  • Employ communication and storytelling skills for effective design process collaboration with peers and stakeholders by communicating and defending design decisions verbally and visually.
  • Demonstrate a growing capacity for understanding and supporting the business goals behind the company's work.
  • Deliver compelling, creative UX design deliverables via proactively collaborating with process partners to understand cross-functional requirements.
  • Contribute to the growth and maturity of the UX Design System
  • Develop a body of knowledge on clinical knowledge and practice to build familiarity with the clinical context and use of products and services.
  • Engage a broad range of stakeholders to solicit their feedback and build consensus and support around your product design vision. Comfortably interact with peers in product, human factors, clinical, and engineering teams to encourage their engagement in the design process.
  • Define, document, and execute design system patterns employing purposeful typography, color, iconography, and motion to deliver world class user interfaces
  • Creatively employ the design process via the creation of early-stage conceptual design artifacts. Distill broadly defined business requirements into clearly understandable design concepts to drive engagement and consensus across the organization.
  • Provide high-level and detail-focused specifications for design deliverables as appropriate
  • Follow product and deliverable timelines working with cross-functional teams to prioritize project work accordingly
  • Partner with the broader Visual Design team to drive consistency across the product ecosystem
Must-haves:
  • Related work experience
  • Knowledge of commercial internet/web tools and protocols
