Job description

Our Customer is a business and financial software company that develops and sells financial, accounting, and tax preparation software and related services for small businesses, accountants, and individuals. They are laser-focused on their customers, live and breathe innovation, and champion those who dare to dream. Their Mission is powering prosperity around the world. They do it by attracting the world’s top talent, bringing vital partners into their global platform, and leaving the world a better place through exceptional corporate citizenship.

We are seeking an SEO Manager on a contract basis to support our Customer's business needs. This role is hybrid (3 days onsite and 2 days remote/week) in San Diego, CA.

This is a hands-on role focused on the tactical execution, creation, and management of content programs across the owned and organic channels. This role is for a seasoned content practitioner who thrives on making and publishing high-quality content for key consumer audiences, ensuring the engine runs smoothly and efficiently to power the brand presence across the digital ecosystem. Reporting directly to the Principal Content Strategist, you will be a key driver of the content engine. While your primary focus is on operational excellence — managing workflows, coordinating with partners, and ensuring seamless publication — you will also be a key creative contributor, helping to shape the editorial calendar and driving content projects from concept to completion. Your role is critical in translating the content strategy into high-quality, engaging experiences for the customers

Responsibilities:

Content Production & Management:

  • Oversee the end-to-end creation of content, from editing and proofreading agency work to managing the execution of diverse formats like video, podcasts, and interactive tools
  • Actively contribute to the editorial planning process by ideating new content concepts and driving content projects from conception to publication
  • Manage the cross-channel editorial calendar and lead the day-to-day relationship with external agencies, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality content that meets strategic guidelines
  • Manage the hands-on publishing process within the CMS (WordPress), including content formatting, scheduling, and regular updates to ensure accuracy and relevance
  • Repurpose core content assets for various distribution channels, including newsletters and social media, to maximize reach and engagement.

Operational & Cross-Functional Excellence:

  • Manage the full content lifecycle, navigating internal review processes with legal, brand, and the network of tax experts to ensure all content is compliant, accurate, and authoritative
  • Maintain and enforce editorial guidelines to ensure brand voice, tone, and quality standards are consistent across all content and channels.
  • Partner closely with social media, PR, influencer, and GTM teams to execute engaging content activations and ensure a seamless, integrated customer experience
  • Be the central point of contact for day-to-day content operations, managing assets and streamlining production workflows, including the use of generative AI tools

Performance & Optimization:

  • Track and report on content performance, translating data into actionable insights to inform tactical adjustments and the execution of content experiments

Skills and Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 7-10 years of hands-on experience in content management, content editing, or a similar role, with a portfolio showcasing content you have managed or edited.
  • Experience working within a large-scale corporate environment or for a major consumer brand is essential.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail and a strong command of brand voice and tone.
  • A proven ability to translate complex topics into clear, accessible, and engaging content that directly answers consumer questions.
  • Proven, hands-on experience with content management systems (CMS), particularly WordPress, and familiarity with digital asset management (DAM) principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple agency partners and complex vendor relationships, ensuring accountability, on-time delivery, and adherence to quality standards.
  • Familiarity with modern search principles, including SEO and GEO (Generative Engine Optimization), and the ability to apply best practices to content.
  • Experience creating content that resonates with diverse audiences, particularly Gen Z and millennial consumers, is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency with content analytics tools (e.g., Adobe, Google Search Console, SEMrush, Ahrefs).
  • Proactive and solutions-oriented, with a proven ability to operate with a high level of autonomy in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
  • A customer-focused mindset with a passion for creating engaging and valuable content.

We offer a competitive salary range for this position. Most candidates who join our team are hired at the median of this range, ensuring fair and equitable compensation based on experience and qualifications.
