We are seeking a Azure Site Reliability Engineer (Linux / Terraform) on a contract basis to help support our Customer’s business needs. This role is on-site in Raleigh, NC.
The Site Reliability Engineer will support the reliability, scalability, and performance of critical systems across cloud and on-premise environments. This role requires strong engineering fundamentals, automation expertise, and the ability to collaborate across teams to improve system resilience and operational excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure system reliability through engineering best practices, automation, and proactive optimization.
- Develop solutions rooted in software engineering, infrastructure management, and operational support.
- Work with cloud platforms such as Azure and manage operating systems, including Linux (RHEL7+) and Windows (2019+).
- Apply networking and storage expertise across NFS, SAN, and NAS technologies.
- Manage authentication and naming services such as DNS, LDAP, Kerberos, and Centrify.
- Create scripting and automation solutions using Python, Go, or Bash.
- Implement and maintain infrastructure-as-code practices using tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
- Define and manage SLIs, SLOs, and SLAs to drive measurable improvements in reliability.
- Integrate with observability platforms to ensure system visibility and effective monitoring.
- Reduce operational TOIL through automation and continuous improvement.
- Participate in structured incident response processes, including post-mortem reviews.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and business teams to support system and service reliability.
- Take ownership of systems and processes with a proactive approach to optimization.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in Site Reliability Engineering with a background in software engineering, infrastructure, or operations.
- Hands-on experience with Azure, Linux (RHEL7+), Windows (2019+), and networking fundamentals.
- Strong understanding of NFS, SAN, NAS, and other storage technologies.
- Working knowledge of DNS, LDAP, Kerberos, Centrify, and related authentication systems.
- Proficiency in Python, Go, Bash, or similar scripting languages.
- Experience with Terraform, Ansible, or other infrastructure-as-code tools.
- Ability to define and manage SLIs, SLOs, and SLAs.
- Experience integrating with observability platforms for monitoring and alerting.
- Mindset focused on automation, metrics, and reliability engineering.
- Ability to remain calm during incidents and follow structured response processes.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.
- Proactive attitude with strong ownership of systems and processes.
