Our Customer is a corporation that develops, manufactures, and markets robotic products designed to improve clinical outcomes of patients through minimally invasive surgery. Founded in 1995, their goal was to create innovative, robotic-assisted systems that help empower doctors and hospitals to make surgery less invasive than an open approach. Working with the top medical professionals, they continue to develop new, minimally invasive surgical platforms and future diagnostic tools to help solve complex healthcare challenges around the world.


We are seeking a Software Development Engineer on a contract basis to support our Customer's business needs. This role is on-site in Sunnyvale, CA.



Responsibilities:

  • Architect, design, and develop software systems that control manufacturing equipment and streamline production processes
  • Build and maintain software infrastructure that enables data collection, analysis, and value extraction from manufacturing systems
  • Develop software and algorithms to ensure the kinematic performance, integrity, and safety of surgical instruments in volume production
  • Design, document, test, and qualify manufacturing software for new instruments and accessories
  • Collaborate closely with product development, systems, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, and quality engineering teams
  • Develop diagnostic strategies and implement supporting software solutions
  • Support and maintain existing production and manufacturing software
  • Follow established software development best practices and standards
  • Work independently to resolve technical challenges with minimal guidance
  • Take ownership of manufacturing software and drive cross-functional projects to completion


Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience
  • Strong programming skills with experience developing production-quality software
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented analysis, design, and programming principles
  • Experience designing, developing, and testing projects from concept through launch
  • Proven ability to execute and deliver complex technical projects
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills
  • Detail-oriented team player with strong collaboration skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts to engineers
  • Ability to adapt to changing requirements in a dynamic environment
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to travel (10%)


Preferred:

  • Experience developing robotic or electromechanical systems, including control systems
  • Experience architecting and developing scalable, production-grade software systems
  • Experience with C#, .NET, and WPF applications
  • Strong understanding of the software development life cycle
  • Familiarity with relational and non-relational databases
  • Experience working in regulated engineering or medical device manufacturing environments
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis, Six Sigma, or statistical process control methodologies
