We are seeking an Accountant on a contract basis to help support their ongoing business needs. This role is on-site in Chicago, IL.
Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for the LATAM business.
 - Ensure critical close deadlines are met and communicate issues promptly for timely resolution.
 - Prepare and review key balance sheet reconciliations with a focus on process improvement and consistency across accounts.
 - Conduct periodic and ad-hoc analysis comparing results to prior periods, identifying trends, and documenting findings.
 - Coordinate with business line and consolidation teams to ensure accurate and complete financial reporting.
 
Accounting and Auditing:
- Apply financial policies and procedures, identifying inconsistencies or improvement opportunities and escalating as needed.
 - Conduct technical accounting research to support areas such as consolidation, revenue recognition, compensation, and leases.
 - Partner with Regional and Global Controllership, Finance, Tax, and Legal teams to address accounting and compliance matters.
 - Support the internal control environment in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements.
 - Assist in standardizing accounting processes across regions to improve efficiency and accuracy.
 - Support internal and external audit procedures and documentation requests.
 
Process Improvement and Standardization:
- Identify and oversee the implementation of accounting process improvements and standardization initiatives.
 - Contribute to efforts that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and transparency across the LATAM accounting and reporting function.
 
Leadership and Team Collaboration:
- Build and maintain effective relationships within the REMS Controllership team and across broader Finance functions, including FP&A and Business Partnering.
 - Collaborate with global teams across Leasing, and Corporate segments.
 - Assist in onboarding, training, and mentoring interns or rotating staff accountants.
 
Qualifications:
- Bilingual in English and Spanish required; Portuguese a plus
 - Collaborative work style
 - Deep understanding of US GAAP and ability to effectively communicate key issues to finance and business leadership
 - Experience in or familiarity with financial system implementations a plus
 - Expert in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
 - Ability to support complex projects, including managing expectations of multiple constituents along the way
 - Ability to mentor others
 - Adept at forging strong relationships within a matrix environment
 - High comfort level with executive-level professionals
