We are seeking a Staff Accountant on a contract basis to support our Customer’s business needs. This role is hybrid (3 days per week for the first 4 weeks, then up to 1-2 days per week thereafter) in Urbandale, IA.
Responsibilities:
- Provide accounting support across functions such as Accounts Receivable, Cash Control, General Ledger, and reconciliations
- Prepare journal entries, payments, billing transactions, and accounting reports
- Maintain and analyze general ledger accounts and related financial records
- Perform variance and trend analysis against budget, forecast, and prior periods
- Support monthly and quarterly close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Coordinate revenue and expense accruals
- Process fund applications, refunds, and payment requests to third parties
- Generate and review administrative and financial reports for stakeholders
- Assist in developing and improving accounting policies, procedures, and processes
- Ensure compliance with corporate policies, SOX controls, GAAP standards, and regulatory requirements
- Verify work and provide guidance to less experienced staff when needed
- Support internal and external audits and reporting requirements
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on financial operations and reporting
Skills and Qualifications:
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles and general ledger processes
- Familiarity with accounting classifications and financial reporting
- Experience with journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analysis
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work under supervision while managing assigned tasks
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work with multiple stakeholders and teams
- Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel
