Job description

The Mom Project is excited to support Etsy with their search for a Staff UX Researcher to join their team on a contract basis.

What's the role?

Etsy is looking for an experienced Staff UX Researcher to join our Inventory team as a leave coverage contractor. As a Staff UX Researcher on Etsy’s Product Research team, you will work in partnership with product managers, designers, engineers, and alongside other researchers and data scientists to deliver insights that will craft the future of human commerce on Etsy.

You know how to conduct professional-quality user experience research and understand when to incorporate both qualitative and quantitative methods. You work well with others, and have proven instincts about when to hold the line on methodological rigor and when to adapt to the changing demands of a project. Most importantly, you approach your work with a genuine sense of curiosity and empathy, and you’re willing to challenge conventional wisdom to find the right answer!

What’s this team like at Etsy?

Etsy’s Inventory team supports the heart of our marketplace: our sellers. We create thoughtful tools that help them manage, share, and grow their one-of-a-kind shops.

From simplifying listing workflows to helping sellers showcase their work beautifully, our mission is to make selling and buying on Etsy easier, more rewarding, and more joyful.

You'll work on experiences addressing critical and complex marketplace challenges — ensuring that buyers can easily evaluate if an item is right for them, expressing and affirming Etsy's brand, powering search and recommendations algorithms with critical data, and more.

What does the day-to-day look like?

  • Partner with team members to guide product development and refinement, drawing on expertise in user research and UX standards
  • Independently define project scope and apply appropriate methodologies to manage a research "portfolio" of foundational and evaluative insights
  • Conduct user research studies with Etsy buyers and sellers
  • Share tangible findings and prioritized recommendations on a regular basis, to encourage marketplace health and drive Etsy’s business goals
  • Manage additional tasks and responsibilities as required by the role, at the discretion of the UX Research Manager

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience conducting UX research, employing methods such as in-depth user interviews, contextual inquiry, journey mapping, participatory design, and usability testing
  • Ability to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of a range of user research methods and a deep understanding of modern trends in app design
  • Ambitious, meticulous, and able to manage multiple projects at a time
  • A strong communicator and storyteller, with the ability to hold your own in a meeting and present research findings with a customer-centric perspective
  • Experience leading research at different parts of the product development process, from discovery to delivery
  • eCommerce/Marketplace experience a plus
  • Experience with SQL, Qualtrics, remote testing tools, or experiment design a plus

Hours and Location:

  • M-F, 40 hours/week
  • 100% remote

We offer a competitive salary range for this position. Most candidates who join our team are hired at the median of this range, ensuring fair and equitable compensation based on experience and qualifications.

All applicants applying for U.S. job openings must be legally authorized to work in the United States and are required to have U.S. residency at the time of application.
