Job description

The Mom Project is excited to support Etsy with their search for a Strategic Finance Analyst to join their team on a contract basis.

About The Team

The Forecasting & Business Insights team is a high-visibility unit within Strategic Finance, with four current members. We act as the primary engine for Gross Merchandise Sales (GMS) forecasting, competitive intelligence, and SEC reporting.

Our work is divided into three core pillars:

  • Predictive Forecasting: Building and maintaining data-driven time series models using SQL, Python, and BigQuery to guide company-wide budgeting.
  • External Reporting: Providing the analytical backbone for SEC filings, earnings presentations, and Investor Relations to communicate Etsy's performance to the public markets.
  • Business Intelligence: Translating complex datasets into actionable insights via Looker/GSheets to support Senior Management and Board-level decision-making.

About The Role

  • Querying & Insight Generation: Independently write high-performance SQL to extract insights from our GCP/BigQuery datasets. Potential areas of investigation include user behavior, seller trends, and marketplace health.
  • Dashboarding & Visualization: Own the design and maintenance of Looker dashboards that act as "self-service" tools to empower stakeholders to answer their own data questions.
  • Strategic Project Support: Partner with the Forecasting and Business Insights team on high priority business cases and open-ended questions.
  • Data Storytelling: Present findings in clear, concise presentations that distill complex statistical results into a narrative that any stakeholder can understand.

Requirements

Must-Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, or related quantitative field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in a data-heavy role, preferably within a two-sided marketplace, e-commerce, or B2C tech company, specifically working with financial, marketplace, or business operations data.
  • Experience in SQL, GSheets, and Git is a must.
  • Data visualization - ability to build concise and high-impact dashboards to drive decision making.
  • Independently write high-performance SQL to extract insights from our GCP/BigQuery datasets.
  • Working knowledge of time-series methodologies for forecasting.
  • Experience building automated, executive-facing dashboards in Looker, Tableau, or similar tools.
  • Ability to distill complex data into concise, actionable summaries for stakeholders who may not be technical but need to make fast, high-stakes decisions.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis

Hours and Location:

  • Monday - Friday, 40 hrs/week, full-time
  • Remote, EST hours
