*This is a seasonal position, but could lead to longer term role if the candidate desires this and is effective. The # of hours per week will vary based on returns being ready for prep and deadlines. There is no specific hour commitment. Rate is $40/hr*

ABOUT THE ROLE

OpStart is seeking a detailed-oriented and experienced tax professional to join our team and assist in the accurate preparation of federal and state filings for our clients. The ideal candidate will have experience in both federal and state tax preparation, a strong understanding of tax regulations, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Partner with our internal Accounting Service teams and our clients to gather necessary tax data, information and documents and ensure timely and accurate completion of tax returns.
  • Prepare and review federal and state tax returns for small businesses, including partnerships, S corporations, and C Corporations.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Determine state nexus and identify and complete necessary filings.
  • Identify potential tax credits, deductions, and other tax-saving opportunities for clients.
  • Respond to client inquiries and provide tax-related advice and assistance.
  • Maintain accurate and organized client records and documentation.
  • Maintain tax status tracker and communicate status of returns and expected timelines for delivery.
  • Stay updated on changes to tax laws and regulations.
  • Assist with tax planning and projections as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of relevant experience preparing federal and/or state tax returns.
  • CPA Certification is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in tax preparation software such as Intuit ProConnect.
  • Demonstrative knowledge of Microsoft Excel is a must.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strategic mindset, with the ability to think critically, analyze complex issues, and formulate actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent analytical abilities, with a keen attention to detail and a problem-solving mindset.
  • Customer centric mindset with a strong desire to help others.
