Job description

We are seeking a Technical Writer on a contract basis to support our Customer's business needs. This role is onsite in Redmond, WA.

The main function of a Technical Writer is to write technical materials, such as equipment materials, appendices, or operating and maintenance instructions. A typical technical writer is responsible for organizing, editing and maintaining technical records and files.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Organize material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminology.
  • Maintain records and files of work and revisions.
  • Confer with client to establish technical specifications and to determine subject material to be developed for publication.

Must-Haves:
  • A Bachelor's degree (computer science, English or communication) is required
  • 5+ years of experience as a technical writer
  • Portfolio required (add portfolio link in the CV/Resume)
  • Basic knowledge of computer software, such as Adobe, JavaScript, Oracle, etc.
  • Software life cycle and release notes experience
  • Proficient in coding (demand lines)
  • Experience Open-source products / AI research products writing experience
  • Technical onboarding and troubleshooting for software and hardware products
  • Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Basic knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar
  • Basic knowledge of media production, communication and dissemination techniques and methods
  • Basic knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects
  • Work with minimal direction toward predetermined goals, and be able to quickly become proficient with new tools and software
  • Proficiency with open source documentation and ability to work closely with user support to define priority areas for additional documentation support
  • Community management experience a plus
  • Job quoting, contributions to technical communities, product release documentation experience a plus
  • Experience working on AI is a plus
