Our Customer is a corporation that develops, manufactures, and markets robotic products designed to improve clinical outcomes of patients through minimally invasive surgery. Founded in 1995, their goal was to create innovative, robotic-assisted systems that help empower doctors and hospitals to make surgery less invasive than an open approach. Working with the top medical professionals, they continue to develop new, minimally invasive surgical platforms and future diagnostic tools to help solve complex healthcare challenges around the world.
We are seeking a Technical Writer on a contract basis to support our Customer's business needs. This role is on-site in Sunnyvale, CA.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, write, edit, and maintain Field Service documentation, including service procedures and technical bulletins for hardware systems
- Develop accurate, clear, and consistent technical documentation aligned with product support requirements and release timelines
- Complete documentation control processes and support final document release activities
- Track documentation work using JIRA and maintain Change Order records within documentation control systems
- Ensure compliance with documentation policies, procedures, quality standards, and company guidelines
- Collaborate with project teams to share knowledge, best practices, and technical information
- Apply technical communication expertise to resolve complex documentation challenges effectively
- Evaluate, recommend, and develop documentation process improvements and productivity tools
- Support the development and maintenance of internal writing style guides
- Communicate complex scientific, engineering, and hardware concepts clearly for technical audiences
- Manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines
- Support documentation needs within office and laboratory environments
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum of 5 years of technical writing experience
- Strong hardware background required
- Recent experience writing minimalist hardware documentation using DITA XML authoring tools such as Oxygen XML Editor or similar platforms
- Experience creating technical documentation for moderate-to-complex hardware products
- Experience developing documentation for multiple technical audiences
- Strong writing, editing, grammar, and content development skills
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand and communicate complex scientific and engineering concepts
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Ability to manage multiple deliverables and competing deadlines effectively
- Understanding of mechanical, hardware, and complex device concepts
- Experience with documentation control processes and systems
- Experience using JIRA for workflow and task tracking
- Experience with Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop
- Ability to work independently with minimal day-to-day supervision
- Professional hardware-focused writing samples required, including installation, repair, or maintenance documentation examples
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience writing documentation for medical devices
