Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION—TRUSTS AND ESTATES ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY

TANGIBLE:

Must be licensed to practice law in Connecticut

Estate planning: meeting with clients to discuss estate planning strategies; preparation of documents (Westlaw program); assisting clients with beneficiary designations; working with financial advisors, accountants on behalf of clients. Documents: Will, Trusts (all types (revocable and irrevocable, SNTs, etc.), POAs, HCDs

Elder law: asset protection, understanding of federal/state programs, ability to prepare Medicaid applications and work with DSS for approval of same; ability to discuss spenddown strategies with clients; knowledge of personal care agreements

Probate: Decedent’s estates: form preparation and steps to administer estate, ability to discuss with client probate and non-probate assets; Conservatorships: form preparation and steps to initiate conservatorship; Testamentary Trusts: steps to initiate trust, prepare accountings, etc.

NON-TANGIBLE:

Soothing personality to work with different types of clients, including those that may be older and ill; ability to explain complicated legalese in laymen’s terms; ability to work under sometimes stressful deadlines; willing to attend networking events/marketing of firm, via in person meetings, seminars/webinars, etc.
