Job description

We are looking for a motivated UX Researcher with excellent communication and people skills on a contract basis to help support our customer’s business needs. ** This role will be remote while COVID restrictions are in place. The expectation is to be onsite at our Customer’s Seattle, WA office once it is determined safe to do so.**

What You’ll Do:


  • Help employ a rolling research program (iterative user testing) to provide early quantitative and qualitative research insights and ensure accountability to these UX goals across the development lifecycle.

  • Demonstrate a rigorous approach to UX research methods as well as have experience developing solution concepts and shipping consumer products.

  • Work with other UX researchers as well as multi-disciplinary hardware and software teams to push the boundaries of what is possible in the AR/VR product and research science spaces. 

  • Work closely with partner teams (product design, software engineering) to understand their goals and stay aligned.

  • Create close partnerships with a variety of research and product stakeholders to ensure a full understanding of the product team's needs and priorities.

  • Engage with other product researchers in the FRL org and other teams to ensure strong sharing and collaboration practices across the company.

  • Effectively communicate research findings and recommendations to stakeholders and partners.

  • Collaborate closely with researchers, designers, PMs & engineers to identify, define and deliver meaningful products into the world.

  • Lead various research studies throughout all the phases of the product development cycle.

  • Contribute to product strategy, execution, and go-to-market plan.

  • Manage research vendors to help augment the work of the research team.

Must Haves:


  • 3+ years of experience in product UX research.

  • Experience with Matlab, Python, R is a plus.

  • Work experience in the AR/VR space or other emerging technologies.

  • Able to drive impact through a range of research approaches and tools, including literature review, qualitative methods (observation, contextual inquiry, interview), usability, & survey research.

  • Able to work closely with other UX researchers to help design research plans and specific studies, as well as communicate findings with stakeholders and drive the impact of the work.

  • Able to work independently executing research, including data collection, data analysis, reporting, shareouts, and knowledge consolidation.

  • Able to coordinate with teammates and run multiple studies in parallel

  • Able to work effectively with cross-functional partners (e.g., industrial design, UX design, hardware & software engineering, PM) to ensure our research accounts for their needs and creates a complete picture of the user experience.

  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods.

  • Experience with survey design and response effects.

  • Experience leveraging hardware prototypes and sensors to collect user data related to human perception, human performance, etc.

  • Experience in one or more phases of the product life cycle, from early generative research – to concept evaluation - to ship – to in-market UX research.

  • Passion for consumer technology.

  • Experience shipping consumer hardware and wearable technologies.

  • Experience working with design teams.

  • Strong skills in qualitative research and analysis.

Education: 

  • MA/MS or Ph.D. in Cognitive/Experimental Psychology, Human-Computer Interaction, Anthropology, Human Factors, or a related field.

Hours & Location: 

This position is a full-time contract position at 40 hours per week, with the possibility of overtime. This role will be remote while COVID restrictions are in place. The expectation is to be onsite at our Customer’s Seattle, WA office once it is determined safe to do so.
