Job description
Our Customer is a Silicon Valley- based company that is engaged in researching emerging technologies.
We are seeking a contract UX Researcher to join a cross-disciplinary team of product managers, designers, writers, engineers, and user researchers dedicated to building health-related digital products. You will work on innovative SaMD and health applications from concept to launch, using a variety of research methodologies to provide actionable insights that shape product direction. This role requires comfort with ambiguity, the ability to run studies end-to-end, and a collaborative mindset to help improve user health through engaging smartphone and wearable experiences.

Responsibilities:
- Partner with stakeholders (Product, Engineering, UX/Human Factors, Regulatory Affairs) to align on research goals and milestones
- Plan, design, and execute user research studies using methodologies such as in-depth interviews, usability testing, observation, contextual inquiry, and surveys
- Work with recruiting vendors to source participants, including writing screeners and managing budgets
- Independently moderate research sessions and manage end-to-end study execution
- Quickly synthesize findings into actionable insights that inform design, product, and development decisions
- Create clear, engaging research reports and presentations for diverse stakeholders
- Collaborate with design, product, writing, and engineering teams to refine products and prototypes for testing
- Contribute to SaMD documentation (e.g., validation plans, risk analysis, study recommendations) to support regulatory requirements
- Use research insights to help shape the health product roadmap and strategy
- Mentor and guide other researchers, providing feedback on reports and collaboration sessions
- Work with leadership to prioritize research activities across projects
Skills and Qualifications:
- 7+ years of UX Research or Human Factors experience with a Bachelor’s degree, OR 1+ years of UX Research or Human Factors experience with a Master’s degree
- Educational background in Human-Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Anthropology, Psychology, or a related field, or equivalent industry research experience
- Demonstrated experience leading multiple research studies from planning through reporting
- Hands-on expertise with a wide range of qualitative and usability methodologies
- Proven track record of working closely with product and design functions throughout the development lifecycle
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to thrive in both independent and collaborative settings
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills for communicating research findings to a variety of audiences
- Fluency in UX best practices, research methodologies, and human-centered design principles
- Strong critical thinking, discretion, and a results-driven approach
- Creative problem-solver with the ability to navigate ambiguity and constraints
Preferred:
- Experience conducting user research for consumer health products, wellness, or medical devices
- Familiarity with motivating users toward healthy behavior change through product design
- Experience evaluating iterative design success with user metrics
- Prior experience mentoring or leading other researchers
- Experience researching consumer devices such as smartphones, smartwatches, or wearables
- Experience in testing prototype software on mobile devices, including remote video-based research
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements in health/medical spaces (SaMD, validation documentation)
