Our Customer is seeking a skilled and knowledgeable contract Wearables UX Researcher to help support their business needs. This role will have the opportunity to partner directly with a single, tightly integrated pod with significant freedom to operate with the time, people and space necessary for conceiving, building and launching brand new products. Research is paramount to this organization’s success - formative research is needed to identify the right latent needs or problems in the world to tackle with product solutions, iterative design research is needed to mold early product ideas into testable prototypes, and creative evaluative research is needed to improve and prepare those products for market.

This role is onsite in Burlingame, CA or Seattle, WA.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate closely with researchers, designers, PMs & engineers to identify, define and deliver meaningful products into the world
  • Collaboratively and independently develop and execute research roadmaps
  • Lead and facilitate a rolling research program for all phases of the product development cycle

Skills and Qualifications:

  • MA/MS or PhD in a human behavior-related field, such as human-computer interaction, psychology, sociology, communication, information science, media studies, computer science, or economics
  • Strong Verbal and Written Communication Skills: The ability to effectively communicate research findings, ideas, and plans is crucial in this role, as it involves collaborating with various stakeholders, including researchers, designers, PMs, and engineers.
  • Experience with Qualitative Research Methods: Proficiency in qualitative research methods such as concept testing, diary studies, and other forms of user research is essential for driving the research roadmap and informing product development decisions.
  • Autonomy and Decision-Making Skills: The ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and make informed decisions is vital in this role, as it requires balancing competing demands and prioritizing tasks.
  • Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong ability to work independently and manage one’s time. relevant domain expertise (Wearables/AR/VR/AI/ML) preferred.
  • Experience with data and utilizing numbers to define and support hypotheses and triangulation of methodologies. Day to day would primarily be driving qualitative research: Concept testing, diary studies, etc. but occasional quantitive work (survey and survey analysis) may be needed.
  • Experience with storytelling to get traction with various audience
  • Experience with autonomy and decision making to balance demands

Preferred:

  • Domain Expertise in Wearables/AR/VR/AI/ML: Having relevant domain expertise can be beneficial in understanding the specific challenges and opportunities in the wearables industry and developing effective research strategies.
  • Quantitative Research Skills: While the primary focus is on qualitative research, having experience with quantitative research methods, such as survey design and analysis, can be useful in providing a more comprehensive understanding of user needs and behaviors.
  • Storytelling Ability: Being able to tell compelling stories with data
