Our Customer is seeking a skilled and knowledgeable contract Visual/Brand/UX Designer to help support their business needs. This role is 100% remote in San Francisco or NYC.
The designer will be responsible for bringing brand expression to product surfaces. You will partner with product design, driving creative explorations and pushing the expansion of the brand. As an experienced designer, you are comfortable collaborating and leading multidisciplinary projects that bridge across mediums including but not limited to iconography and illustration. You have a point of view and collaborate with art directors, illustrators, content designers, engineers and product designers to ensure a consistent and brand system across the landscape. You should always be curious and eager to experiment.
The ideal candidate for this role is an innovative problem-solver with a systems mindset, iterating quickly through cycles. The successful candidate should have strong, focused experience in illustration, iconography and brand expression. Additionally, the designer should have the ability to adapt to different styles and mediums, work on rapid iterations and be familiar with how to work in product.
Responsibilities:
- Create illustrations to support comprehension of in product features.
- Concept and prototype brand expression in-product experiences crafting style and emotional tone.
- Develop the design system’s visual identity within product patterns and exploratory UI
- Articulate strategic thinking and direction in presentations to stakeholders.
- Seek out creative opportunities and feedback to improve on existing style(s) and approach
- Work independently in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment while also ensuring brand consistency.
- Understand and translate product needs into designs that are delightful, easy-to-use and effective in articulation.
- Participate and present in team crits, design sprints and workshops.
- Able to meet multiple deadlines, prioritize work, and keep projects moving forward.
- Communicate design direction in addition to being a hands-on designer.
Skills and Qualifications:
- A portfolio that demonstrates product, branding, communication design experience.
- 10 years of professional experience in graphic/visual design, grid systems and applications for web, desktop, and mobile (iOS + Android).
- Experience or exposure to working with design systems at scale.
- Demonstrated experience with visual storytelling and communication design.
- Demonstrated experience creating work for digital surfaces (mobile, web).
- Portfolio exhibits conceptual skills, composition and color.
- Presentation, interpersonal, and communication experience.
- Knowledge of creative & production tools: G-Suite, Figma, Illustrator, Photoshop.
- Experience with time management, task prioritization, and identifying problems and work towards solutions.
- Skilled in visual and graphic design. Knowledge in Figma and Adobe Suite.
- Understand hierarchy, colour shape, forms, semiotics, communications design, visual designs and aesthetics.
- Understand systems design – beyond making pretty things is about the what and the how. Beyond making concepts, it’s design language.
- Show how the designs can be conveyed, used and described.
Preferred:
- Experience working with or inside design systems and product teams.
- Experience in 3D design, prototyping and motion/animation a plus.
- Experience or familiarity working on design systems and brands systems.
- Familiar with AI tools.
