About Outset

Outset is building transformative pre-college experiences for ambitious students exploring careers in medicine and healthcare. Through immersive, hands-on programs hosted with leading academic institutions and healthcare organizations, we help students gain early exposure to the real world of medicine, clinical practice, and health innovation.

We are seeking a Part-time (10-20 hours per week), Remote, Head of Content.

The Role

We’re hiring our first Head of Content Marketing to build and own our content strategy from the ground up.

This is not a “manage a blog” role. You’ll be responsible for defining our voice, creating a category, and turning content into a meaningful growth channel.

You will operate as both a strategist and a builder—equally comfortable shaping narrative at the highest level and getting your hands dirty writing, shipping, and experimenting.

If you’ve been waiting for a chance to build something from zero—and have it actually matter—this is that role.

What You’ll Do

Work with CEO/CMO to define and own the content vision

  • Define Outset’s content strategy across channels (blog, SEO, social, email, long-form, etc.)
  • Develop a clear point of view on our category and how we show up in it
  • Establish a distinct, memorable voice that stands out in a crowded market

Build from zero → one

  • Launch and scale our content engine from scratch
  • Manage content sourcing and production
  • Identify high-leverage opportunities (SEO, thought leadership, distribution plays, etc.)
  • Create systems and processes that make content repeatable and scalable

Create exceptional content

  • Write (or edit) and ship high-quality content yourself (this is a hands-on role)
  • Turn customer insights, product insights, and market trends into compelling narratives
  • Produce content that people actually want to read, share, and reference

Drive growth

  • Turn content into a measurable acquisition and pipeline channel
  • Partner with product, sales, and leadership to align content with company goals
  • Experiment aggressively with formats, channels, and distribution strategies

Build for the future

  • Develop repeatable playbooks for scaling content output
  • Establish Outset as a category-defining voice over time

What We’re Looking For

Must-haves

  • 7–10+ years in content marketing (ideally led content marketing successfully in fast-growing startup or adjacent space)
  • Proven experience building content programs from scratch (or near-zero)
  • Exceptional writing ability—you can simplify complex ideas and make them engaging
  • Strong product intuition—you know how to translate product value into compelling stories
  • High ownership mindset—you don’t wait for direction, you create it
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and moving quickly

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in research, insights, UX, or data-adjacent products
  • Strong SEO instincts (but not overly reliant on it)
  • Familiarity with modern content distribution (LinkedIn, newsletters, communities, etc.)

Why Join Outset

This is an opportunity to play a defining leadership role at a mission-driven company operating at the intersection of education, healthcare, and career exploration. You’ll help shape the institutional relationships that power our programs and influence how students access transformative early experiences in medicine and healthcare. If you are excited to build enduring academic partnerships, represent a high-growth education company at the highest level, and help create exceptional opportunities for students, we’d love to hear from you.
