Job description

Our Customer is an American worldwise clothing and accessories retailer, founded in 1969. Over the last 50 years, the company has grown from a single store to a global fashion business with seven brands. Their clothes are availabile in 90 countries worldwide through over 3,100 company-operated stores, almost 400 franchise stores, and e-commerce sites and is still growing.


We are seeking a Women's Designer Director on a contract basis to support their business needs. This role is open to both on‑site and remote candidates based in San Francisco or New York, with a preference for those in the Pacific Time zone.


In this role, you will work in an energizing, inclusive, and creative environment focused on concepting and creating sustainable products that exceed customers' expectations. Your goal is to partner with cross-functional team members who collectively are responsible for ensuring that the product style, fit, and quality are more than worth the price for the customers. You will set the overall global design direction for the conceptual development of a specific product line. Must lean into risk-taking and be customer curious.



Responsibilities:

  • Define and set the strategic direction for a specific product line and design team
  • Provide creative direction, mentorship, and coaching to build a high-performing design team
  • Research global markets to identify seasonal trends, silhouettes, fabrics, techniques, and competitive insights
  • Develop product concepts and sketches, and present design ideas to leadership and cross-functional partners
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including Merchandising, Production, Technical Design, Sourcing, Visual Merchandising, and Marketing to ensure seamless execution from concept to customer experience
  • Collaborate with Production and Technical Design teams to develop tech packs and communicate design intent, fit, and quality standards
  • Ensure product execution aligns with quality expectations and margin targets
  • Lead and support key design initiatives and oversee implementation across product lines
  • Foster innovation through customer-focused thinking and a willingness to take creative risks
